With th e rain ha ving delayed the prog ram, the 85 c c Mod (7 - 1 1) a nd 65c c Mod classes wer e he ld over to the ne xt day ' s racing. GROUP II HALF MILE, .JULYS With ra in having wip ed o ut a ny chance at run ning the Group II mile on Wed nesday, there was no cho ice but to reschedule the event for the Thursday ra in date . The bad new s was that the track surface had ta ke n on too mu ch water, and th us the mile could no t be used. Inste ad, the Group II contenders had to settle for another da y on the ha lf mile . Most took the change in stride . Bry a n S m ith certainly d id , as he on ce again s tor med t o t h e 25 0 cc DTX m a in event win, finishing ha lf a straightaway ahead of Brian Vincent, who finished second , and Brandon Laursen , who finish ed third. J a c k Warren was ba ck on the atta ck in th e Open 50+ class fin a l, on ly th is tim e the Mich igan rider left no doubt as to his s uperior ity , finish ing nearly a straightawa y ah ead of J im Bauerle and James Be ck. The 250cc Mod class final featured a battle ro yale, as Jared Mee s scored a n upset win . Nick Cumm ings h a d gotten th e holeshot , but a c ra s h by Bla k e Yo un g necessitated a restart. Young was groggy after the c ra s h , a nd was o ne of the few riders to be tra nsported fro m the scene a ll weekend . Yo u ng was la te r t reated an d released . Mees jumped to the fro nt on the resta rt , with Cummings running second and Cory Mc De rmitt putt ing another"consistent third-place fin ish . Ch a rlie Itali a cruised to the win in the 400cc Mod final, but J oe Brom ley m ust ha ve tuned his KTM up a bit, as h e wa s at le a s t able to keep the stre ak ing Italia h o nest for a while. Larry VanVa lkenburg once again finis hed th ird . Royal Ad d e rs o n had h is Ha rley Davidson tuned up to the ma x fo r the O pe n 4 0+ feature , but Da n Weicht cha llenged Adderson and managed to take the le ad . Adderson c a m e ba ck , ho wever , an d wo un d up winning the race by over 10 lengths. Joe Snyder came through for second place, while Dan Weicht wa s third . Gor do n S c ho p ie ra y had s wit ch ed r e a r tires in the h o p e of gai ning enough tra ction to run down Adderson in a ba ttle of XRs during the 18+ Tw ins final, but Schopiera y's gamble pro ved to be a poor bet. Instead , he sli d a ro und on t h e gro ove wh ile Adderson rode off into the sunset for ano the r win . Schioperay finished a dista nt second , with Nic k Taylor riding a Yam ah a to third pla ce . John ny Cooper a nd Mic ha e l Butler waged war again in the 30+ final, but t h is t ime Co o p e r le ft Bu tler beh ind early a nd went on to ta ke the win by a full s tra ig htawa y. Bu tler wa s sec o n d, s om e dista nce a head o f thirdpla ced J oe Broml ey . Rob Pearson was lo ok ing good in the early go ing o f the 6 0 0cc Mod class , but Cory McD ermitt took th e le a d and b e g a n t o run' away fro m Pearson . A desperate Pearson liter all y yanked his th rottle so hard do wn the ba ck c h ute th at it stu c k wid e open, c a us ing a horrific -looking ba il-off in turn three . Amazingly , Pearson wo uld rej oin the field for the re sta rt, bu t his bike refused to hold together. Instea d of McD ermitt c ru is in g t o th e win , however , Jared "T he Band it " Mee s drove past McD erm itt and stole another win for the week. McDerm itt was second , with Steve Murray finish ing third . Bryan Smith co m p lete d his perfe ct sweep of the Pro-Sport c lass es b y taki ng the 600 cc feature win in a slig ht ly different fashion than he had during the rest of t h e week. Smith was only about fou rth or fifth off the line , b u t he pa t ie nt ly t hreaded his way p ast th e tr a ffic in .fro nt of him, finally passing Brian Vincent in turn th re e to take the lead on la p five . Vincent slip ped a nd slid off the groove in a n effo rt to stay with S mith , but was a ble to h o ld o n for second place , a head of Timmy Mitc he ll. Ste ve Mu rray c ru ised to an easy w in in th e 500cc Mod c la s s after Charlie Ita lia slid ou t in tu rn one Th e final race of the week featured t he 25 0 cc DTX class, where TCR team mates Nick Cu mmings and Cory Mc Dermitt faced off for the last time . Cummings took the early lead in th is s howdown, but McDerm itt battl ed his way p ast Cu m m ings and th en hogge d the groove. Cumm ings was relentless in h is attacks on McDerm itt , even t ry ing for a pass betwe e n McDerm itt and the ou ts ide fence off the last stra ight away. Mc Dermi tt bare ly h eld on fo r the win .
