Among the most interesting is the decision to use A naheim's Edison International Field for three different rounds, the first time ever for a trip le-header venue in Supercross. Edison has featur ed a double-header for the past few years , but next season, the rounds won't be consec utive, as the San Diego and Phoenix rounds will break up the Anaheim stops. South ern California is the 'series' strongest mar ket , and running m ultiple rounds in a single venue also allows maximu m amortization of funds a by cutting overhead costs (t he same dirt can be used, and events such as m onster truck com petitions could be held on the off-weekends) . While Anaheim is adding a round, Pontiac , Mich igan, has lost a round, and is now planned to feature just one tour stop (t he Silve rdome hosted two rounds this year) . Another eye-opener is the addition of Salt Lake City, Uta h' s Rice-Eccles Stadium as a tour.stop . Th e venue will host the series' penultimate round in late April. In order to add a venue and still limit the series to 16 rounds, PACE had to cut one of this year's citi es from the schedule, and Joliet , illinois, was the loser. That city's Route 66 Raceway hosted it s first-ev er Supercross this year, and although it had the distinction of havi ng two titles decided at its debut effort , cold weather limited fan turnout. ue I · · · · · · · . . . .
