Morales lined up next to the box, and at the drop of th e gate, his YZ426F prop ell ed him ahead of the fie ld and into the lead . By the second tum, Warren Joh nson stole the lead on his KX , and th e race was on. Th e duo chec ked out fr om th e rest of t he fiel d to settle matter s between th em selves. Morales hounded J ohn son for several laps before m akin g th e pass in direct view of all the fans wat ching th e action . " I k new I could pass him at will, I am so co m fortable on thi s tr ack," Mora les said wi th a huge sm ile o n his face..., wanted pass him in front of everyone - and I did . He is m y buddy , so that m ak es it even bett er ." Robert Bolton had a som ewhat uneventfu l ride, racin g un cont ested in th ird pla ce . Behind Bolton, a battle rage d for th e fourth position bet ween Ch ris Bergstrom and Eric Gunther, Bergst rom houn ded Gunther the entire moto but was unable to get around and had to settl e fo r fifth at the checkers.
