Arizona. The riders gathered at th e Inn of Payson for the ru nning of Rid e num ber two of the Ariz ona Dual Sport Adv ent ure Series by KTM & Wild W est Desert To urs , a fou r-rid e series orge ni zed by Ma uri ce Brea and his wife , Tina. The two-day event, staged in the Tonto National Fores t , a bout 50 m il es no rt h of Ph oenix, pro mised to offer some new riding challenges to an ever -ex pandi ng ci rcl e of d ua l- sp o rt motorcycle enthusiasts from Arizona, Califor nia and New Mexi co . SEAT riders Gary Bur rows , Bob Thompson. Terry Hopkins and Neil Clark represented th e Si erra Vista /Tu csonba sed m otorc y cl e cl ub, severa l of wh ose m ember s enjoy atten ding the se events on a regu lar be sts. Burrow s wa s riding his newly "dual sported" XR650R Hond a, and Th ompson was fi eld -t estin g hi s big -bore Hu saberg. Clark and Hopkins were ridin g their ven era bl e XR650Ls , which work so well for th ese backroad s "a dve nture to uri ng " events. Th e T onto Nati on al Forest is a transiti o n area betw een the Phoen ix basin to th e south and the Mogoll on Rim to the north. This pro vides the rider with va ried terr ain ranging from extreme elevation changes over rock-strewn forest trails to bea utifu l, sweep ing dirt bywa ys m eand erin g throu gh tall stands of pine fore sts. As is com m on with mos t orga nized dua l-sport rides, th e promoter did a fine job of provi din g rout e o ptio ns o n th e roll c ha rts t hat f it th e va ryi ng sk ill s of th e attend ees . Ther e w er e challenging sections for th ose with refined offroad sk ill s (and bik es to m atch ) and regular sections for those looking for a more rela xed off -road experience - som ething for everyo ne.
