"i t was probably the safest thing to do. They screened it off . and all of a sudden we were gettin g some front end push that w as n' t there before. I about pushed into the hay bales on both ends of the track that first lap. I had to take a diffe rent look at going into the comers. I slowed down a litt le bit because I had the gap and wa s just looking to maint ain it from there. I saw Roeder back there. then the next time i looked it was Ch ris [E vans] and he had a gap behind him. so I decided to just try and keep the wheels underneath me. I used the same tire. but I swapped edges." "The water hurt me I think but. if it meant finishing ninth instead of eighth and being able to see. it was wo rth It." Brya n B igelow said. "They put water on the track . but I don' t think it helped me that much . ' said Scott Parker . - My contention was, it was a safety factor . I could see the down bike when I came around. you have to look out for the guys running in the back. we don't need anybody gett ing hurt , just over squirting a litt le bit of wate r on the track. I didn't think they needed to drag it. but dust was the issue. I was the one that brought up the water and I asked everybody what they thought and everyone agreed, then five minutes later. somebody started thinking T hat might be a disadvantage for us.' And they changed their minds. It was a safety facto r. just trying to look out for everybody for next week and I'm not even going top be there.Walking wounded dept .: B uz Mei ferdt. a longtime AMA official was back at his post after missing the rain-out in Parkersburg. His excuse? A heart attac k. But Meiferdt said that with a change in his medicine, he's good to go. Kevin A therton says he's also close to his return as he spent most of his day visiting in the Parker pits . For Steve Beatti e the news is not quite as good. Steve spent the wee k end roaming the pits in a back brace and a cast on his right wrist. There were 45 750' s ready to go Saturday night. but only 40 made it back on Sunday. Early morning rains and an iffy forecast no doubt played a part in that.
