Ind iana. He ma de his trip worthwhile. however, by pick ing up three class wins and a beautifu l Fast Time trop hy - and the $100 cash prize that went with iL Wheelwright's first win cam e in th e 250cc cla ss as he fle w his JPC Yamaha YZ250 over the top of the 150-foot mudbank in a sizzling 4.033 seconds on his fir st -round ride , setting the fast time to that point of the nig ht. No one ca me really close to that tim e in the class. but Mark Good ma n Jr. gav e it a good try, ca rdi ng a 4.20B -seco nd time on his KX250 for second place. Matt Peters topped the hill in 4.436 seconds on hi s CR2S0 for th ird , foll owed by Jon Cree k and Dan Prebe, both riding Hondas , in th e fourth and fift h spots . In second- rou nd action, however, Wheelwrigh t just wou ldn 't be deni ed a perfect nig ht, and he shot his Yama ha ove r the top in a class- winning 4.41 6 seconds; he was one of very few riders who were ab le to improve their tim es in the seco nd round. Fortner respo nded with an excellent run himself. but his 4.500 sec on ds left him with the second -place spot aga in . Lane "Li g ht ni ng " Schu lt z was a dou bl e class winner. lakin g vic tories in bo th the Open and 750cc clas ses.
