U p front , Simon and We isberg were locked in a fie rce braking duel. Show i ng Simon his wh eel at every opportunity, Weisberg was giving Sim on little roo m to breathe. Afterw ard , an ecstatic Weisbe rg com m ented that it had taken him • ye ar to leam how to go fast by slowing down . In the hotly c ontested Expert Mod ified c lass, Rolando Quintero, Leonard Mellgren , Ja son Perez and Tommy Crawford, in cl o se form ati on, broke away from th e field . Quintero appeared to have th e upper han d , bettering his rivals in both th e m orn ing and afternoon races. Perez he ld down thi rd in both races, with Crawford and Mell gren tr ad ing pl aces. In one of the best battles of t he day, Cra wford and Perez had a di cefest go ing on in th e afternoon race ; Perez's yo uthful determina tio n wa s not en ou gh to overcome Craw ford 's sheer power and drive off the comers. Skye Girard's introduction into the Arne teur ranks ma y not have been as rewarding as he might ha ve wished, but it wa s d efinitel y ev en tful. Starting t h e m o rn ing ' s Am ateu r Stock race from the 16th po sition on th e grid, Gir ard rod e an aggressive yet calculated race , stea dily moving up through th e field .
