G~~ ,1M ~. ~ an other reason might be the altered rid ing position com pared to th e st andard R 1. Th is come s thanks t o the German re ar sets that pu t y ou r fe et hi gher and furt he r ba ck , and a raised rear ride height, and i t fe els m u ch more like GP racer th an a spo rtb ik e, wit h m ore of you r bod y weight resting on the handlebar to help load up the front wheel for added grip. Okay - but this also makes it m ore of an effort to li f t the Yamaha o v er fr om side t o s id e, a n d ma y e xplain wh y , in a series of tighter turns along a winding country roa d, you do n eed to wo rk qu ite hard at m ak ing the VfJM RF 1SP steer. On faster , m or e ope n c urves it's great - espe ci ally with th e mu ch li gh te r. Dymag whee ls speed ing up the stee ri n g through reduc ed gyro scopic effec t ; sin ce th ese p redo m inate o n t h e fa st roa d co urses th e ra cer it's derived from (and wh ose cha ssis geometry it sha res) was bu ilt for, th at's the main thing . The lighter wh eels al so reduce unsprung we ight and help th e susp ension com p li ance, and though th e VfJM bik e has a stiffer ri de than a production RI , its multi adjustable suspension means you can dia l in settings suitable for every kind of use - like tra ck days - very easily. One thing you 'r e glad o f with such an incredibly potent motor is that the RF I -SP sto ps j ust as well as it goes , thanks to the PFM b rakes with their braided ho ses, whi ch are eve n bett er i n street use than the stock R I 's alr eady excellent Sumitomo package. The six -pot calipers aren 't as grabby as you might ex pect such a powerful setup to be, providing more progressivity than Nissin 's snatchier six -pack stoppers, but with a grea t deal more bite and outrigh t stopping power than an y st r e et B r emb o s , o nce yo u sq ueeze hard. And riding in the rain. as I had c a u se t o d o i n ty pically British co nditions (we don 't h ave a c lima te, w e j u st ha v e we at he r) showed th at the PFMs are predic t able and easy to m odulat e - yo u won 't wish that you had ABS fitted t o th e bike. The stiffer sp ring s fitted to the sto ck f ork also me an the RF I-SP doesn 't stand on its nose wh en you brake re ally, really h ard, lik e the st and ard b ik e d oe s - add ing t o th e c o n fi d en c e you get from using the brakes. Nice package . Sa m e th in g go es fo r t he w h ol e bike - for wh ile it 's undeniab ly potent and pretty peaky, th e RF I -SP can be r idden in traffic or off the powerban d around town perfectly easi ly . You j ust k now you have all that perform ance corked up in the bottle, waiting to be released . And wh en you get the go faster genie up and runn ing once the traffic cl ears and th e road opens out, there' s no more effective d ev ice fo r street-sweepi ng sportbikin g th an the VfJM Yama ha race rep li ca .
