T he t rack was in exce llent condition, with lo ts of loam and very few rocks . Mother Nature provided a bea utiful spri ng da y , and m ore than 300 rid ers sig ned up to race the 2 7 classes slated for th e day ' s prog ram . David Gino lfi got th e best j ump off the first 125cc A ga te, taking t he ho lesh ot and the early lead , with A le x Bla ck well a very cl ose second . Harp er, charging ha rd, managed to pa ss Schappert for fourth. By the end of the lap, Kear had a fi ve-seco nd lead over Bo zae in seco nd . Harper pa ssed Poccia fo r thi rd , a nd Gin o lfi was now in fjfth and charging hard . Just afte r th e start o f la p t h ree, G inolfi passed Poc ci a for fo urt h by do in g the hu ge Hurricane step· up wh en Poc cia d idn't. Ginolfi passed Harpe r for th ird by the end of lap th ree. Ginol fi im m ediately sta rted to pressure Bozack for second , bumping him in the air on the huge step-up and co m ing out of the follow ing tu m in second. The to p-five ru nning o rder was now Kear, Ginolfi, Bozack, Harpe r and Pocci a. Gi nolfi quickly passed Kear for th e lea d and began to pull away. When Gi nolfi was given th e while flag , he had already opened up a five· second lead . The firs t l25cc A moto went in the re cord books as Ginolfi, Kear, Harper, Bozack and Al ex Bl ackwell. Harper earned the holeshot in the second moto, with Blackwell, Dav id Eckhart. Kear and Ginolfi in tow. Ginolfi quickly pas sed K ear. When the leaders came off the step -up. Harper and Blackwell held first and seco nd. but Ginolfi wa s on fir e and wa s alr ead y up to third and pre ssurin g Blackwell for seco nd. Eckhart and Kear held on to fourth and fifth . Blackwell was feelin g the press ure from Ginolfi but managed to ho ld him off for about ha lf a la p . Ginolf i fina ll y made the pa ss about halfw ay th rough lap two . Blackwell dropp ed to th ird . Harp er had an eig ht · second lead by th e end of lap two . Gin olfi m anaged to cut Harper 's lead by a cou ple of seco nds by the end of the m ota , but it wasn·t eno ugh to get the second -m ota w in . Harper held on fo r th e m oto win. with Gin ol fi . Pete May lj and Do n Sc hm idt led th e fir st 250cc Expert m oto . Di et er m o ved into th e lea d on lap two. Schm idt took over seco nd, with Maylj in th ird . T he finishi ng order was set, w it h D ieter tak in g a co mfo rt ab le wi n , wi th Schmidt in seco nd and Maylj in th ird . Dieter j umped o ut to an early lead in mot o two, leavi ng May lj and Schm idt to battl e ov er second. Diete r led every lap to tak e the m ot o win and the ove rall , while Maylj finished second , wh ich was good fo r second overal l. Schmidt was third in the mota for third overall. In th e 16-24 class, both motos were carbo n co pies of the other. Dieter took first each time out with large leads over Jimmy Miller in second in each mota, while William Cabalero was third in both motes . In the first 125 cc Expert moto , Die ter ran up front with Malyj and Ben Trask before dropping off the pa ce with a flat tire. This put a different spin on the moto, as Malyj took full ad vantage of the situation a nd pulled out a co mmand ing lead for the mota win. Trask was secon d , wh ile Miller was thi rd in one of his first Ex pert races. Dieter came out for mo ta two with a fresh ti re and tub e and proceeded to put tog ether a flawl ess m oto to take th e w in over Schmidt, who fini shed second but did not pla ce in moto one. Mal yj back ed up his first-m oto win w ith a th ird , which was good for the overall. Other not able dou ble cla ss winners incl uded Jason Doyle, who too k th e win s in th e Min i Seni or and Mini Combined cla sses, and Chad Dunning , wh o fi nishe d fi rst in th e 60 cc and Mi ni Junior classes .
