We told RPM that we w a n t ed a
strong , dee p motor that did not have
a biq -b ore feel. In our est imation, he
ach ieved thi s. T he motor pu lls very
hard and is stro ngest in the middle of
th e powerband . W e liked th is easy -t o ride power and felt th at fo r the majorit y of tod ay ' s track s, thi s po we r is a
wi n ner a nd could ru n with 250 s in
any Vet class . The only comp laint is
that the KX 14 4 could use more to p
end . However , according to RPM ,
the y do make a version that has more
top end , it just wasn 't compliant with
our initial req uest.
Howeve r , o ur KX14 4 h ad great
ove r - re v and torque , and we fel t as
tho ugh we co uld stay in a higher g ear
for l on g er - co m pare d t o n orm al
12 5 s. W e d id n ot have t o shi ft as
often (the po wer was always th ere ) ,
and to get more revs we j ust d isc on nected th e throttle-position sensor o n
the carb , and the exercise worked .
Now , we 've done othe r projec ts
w ith RPM before , and we never reco m men d beefi ng up your motor in
orde r t o gai n an u n f a ir ad v an t ag e
o ver you r co mpetition , but man, b y
nature , l ikes to go fas te r, and RPM
will defin it el y ass ist yo u with that natur al in st in c t. And if you use it in a
ra ce and don 't get c aught, well , that's
yo ur c ompetition 's problem .
