"When I was practicing Saturday, I couldn't
seem to get the bike turned very well and I
was losing time in most of the comers," Denning reported. "I went back to the hotel that
night and put a lot of thought into setting up
my bikes and decided what changes to make
for Sunday. After making some changes that
worked with the new Metzelers, I was right on
the pace."
Eisenacher, the top Yamaha money winner
from last season, ended up second to Denning
in both the A and C Superstock races and
third in both the Formula One and C Superbike events. Eisenacher led the majority of
laps in each race, only to be drafted and
passed on the final run to the checkered nag
time after time.
"Larry would let me give him the guided
tour around the track and then square off the
final tum and get me at the line every time,"
said Eisenacher. "This is one of the most
competitive regional races I've been to in
quite a while: with me, Larry, Tim [Bemisderfer), Scott Brown, Manny [Manusuthakis] and
(Shane I Prieto all here, the grids read like the
Yamaha top-money-winners' list. Let's put it
this way: I ran my personal-best lap time this
weekend, a 1:] 3.8, and I didn't even win a
race,"
Eisenacher wanted to single out one other
sponsor in particular that helped him make
dramatic improvements.
"I have always used stock shocks on all my
race bikes, and I've had a lot of success with
them, but I just installed Fox Shocks on both
heat two. Young was second but lost time in
the stadium section on the first lap. As
Thompson increased his lead, Young had
more trouble when he dropped his Yamaha in
a muddy, one-line hairpin turn. Young
remounted for another second, over a closing
Jernigan. Lockhart was fourth.
After leading the first 250cc Money moto
from start to finish, Thompson faced his
strongest challenge of the day in round two.
With daylight beginning to fade, Jernigan
pulled the holeshot on his YZ250. Thompson
moved into second on the first lap and set out
after the leader. Jernigan charged hard, but he
couldn't hold Thompson back. Thompson
passed for the lead in the back section. The
final order was Thompson, Jernigan and Joey
Silcox.
Grady Hendrix grabbed the lead in the first
Over 40 moto, with Jerry Young second.
Young tiad problems early on, and Hendrix fell
in the stadium section. Terry Joell took the
win on his KX125, and a steady Wesley McKinney placed second.
Hendrix and Young again took the start in
the second race. Joel! used an inside line over
a tabletop to move into second on lap one.
Hendrix ran off the track in the stadium section. Joell built a huge lead and held it to the
checkers. After dropping to third, Young doubled his way past McKinney for second. Hendrix put a last-lap move on McKinney to take
third.

Yamaha racer Larry Denning made the long
trek from his home in Kansas City, Kansas, to
pick up the largest share of the Yamaha contingencies at the WERA Regional Sportsman
event at Roebling Road Raceway. This was
Denning's first time at the very fast 2.25-mile,
nine-tum road course, but he perfonned more
like a seasoned local, beating multi-time
National Champion Billy Eisenacher, nationalcaliber ace Tim Bemisderfer, and a host of
other great riders to take home $3000. With
two wins and two second-place finishes in the
four sprints that he entered, the 4&6
Cycles/PirellijMetzeler/Dega Racing{frackside
Racers Supply-sponsored Midwesterner was the
most successful Expert racer of the weekend.
In only his second ride for his new tire
sponsor, Denning won both the A Superstock
and C Superstock sprint events on the brandnew Metzeler race-only DOT tires. Denning
also earned second in both the Formula One
and C Superbike events using the same
Yamaha YZF R-l and YZF R-6 race bikes that
he campaigned last year to become the number-two overall money winner from Yamaha.
