Ducati North America and Ducati Performance have announced a contingency program for privateer Ducati racers competing in select 2000 AMA and Formula USA road race series. Ducati will pay $1000 for a first place finish in each of the 10 AMA Pro Thunder Series races; and will pay $500 for a win, $200 for second place, and $100 for a third place finish in each F-USA Sportbike round. Additionally, there is a $1000 championship bonus for the Ducati rider who wins the title. Mark Moisan posted 361.8 horsepow. er with his 1300cc Suzuki Hiyabusa to win the American Motorcycle Institute's Brute Horsepower competition, held duro ing Bike Week at Daytona in March. The three-cylinder Benelli Tornado superbike will make its public debut at the Isle of Man during the Benelli Lap of Honor. Two of the Tornados will be present on the Isle of Man, one to be ridden by Benelli owner Andrea Merloni and the other by Kel Carruthers, the man who won the 1969 Isle of Man n and the 250cc World Championship on a factory Benelli. Those two will be joined in the Lap of Honor by some 60 vintage Benelli motorcycles. n The Women's School of Motocross will hold a session during the AMA Women in Motorcycling Conference on July 13 in Athens, Ohio. According to the event promoters, Daytona Short Track winner Terry Poovey will race in the Pro portion of the AMA South Central Amateur Nationals, April 28·30 at Devils Bowl Speedway and Boyd Raceway. The Freestyle Moto-X Championships will be held at the Orange Show Speedway in San Bemardino, California, on May 13 with the event being an official qualifier for this summer's X Games. Ride for Life XIII will travel to York, Pennsylvania, from over 40 different Harley-Davidson dealerships in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Maryland, Delaware and Northern Virginia, some of whom will travel over 260 miles. A sound test was recently held at Temecula Speedway in Temecula, California, and the results were favorable. The city is expected to release a racing schedule for the balance of the year on April 25.
