portion of the layout to complete half a lap, he
had already established his lead.
By lap two. Carroll had a healthy 10-second cushion over Robert Goettling, who was
an equal distance ahead of Ron Eikenbary and
Zal Jackson. At one point. Carroll bobbled
and GeottJing closed to within five seconds of
the leader, but Carroll just upped the pace
during the second half of the race for a very
convincing win. Jeff McClure fought his way
up to finish third, behind Geottling. Eikenbary
and Bob Sherred rounded out the top five.

mota wins, with Bates taking the overall. During the second moto, Pederson applied the
pressure on Bales, looking for that secret line,
but Bates was just too tough. On the last lap,
they were side by side going over the final
jump when Bates opened it up and got some
big air, taking the checkers.
Other noteworthy performances were
turned in by Beginner-class racers Forrest
Fonseca. Victor Hugas. Johnny Macias and
Honda-mounted Matt Hoff. Hoff used consistency to win the class, going 2-2 for the overall.
The Open Intermediate class was all Bryan
Monjaras', as he raced a new Suzuki DR-Z400
and proved that when you are good, you can
win on anything.

Mason Russell, and Peter Stovich. Blake Russell looked ready to take the moto win. but a
last-lap mistake cost him. Garcia moved up
and took the checkers. with a disappointed
Blake Russell settling for second. Foucheck,
Jon Mason Russell and Stovich rounded out

Bainbridge Kawasocks
It to Argyll
By MIKE VANCIL
DIXON, CA. APR. 2
The third annual CMA Pacific Coast Championships came to Argyll Cycle Park, and a
good turnout of riders showed up to do battle.
Kawasaki jockey Nick Bainbridge from Fort
Bragg put on a charge to catch RM 125mounted Jesse Dawson, who had gotten the
holeshot on the field of six. The few wet places
on the track seemed to present a problem for
and made the pass on Dawson, who managed
to hang on to second. Stewart put forth an
extra effort on the final short straight by the
finish-line jumps; his feet came off the footpegs and he nearly fell trying to pass Parks,
but Parks kept third. Kawasaki-mounted Cole
Bridenbaker finished fifth.
Bainbridge was also the dominant rider in
the 250cc Intermediate class. winning both
motos over consistent second-place finisher
Brian Jones. The lone Pro rider, Parks, ran
with the Intermediate class. and he proceeded
to get the holeshot in both motos. However,
Parks fell in both motos; he was uninjured in
both mishaps, but he lost too much time getting back up and running and so was not a
contender in either of his appearances. Bainbridge was in second and pounced on the
opportunity when Parks stepped off on lap
one, and Aaron Vause inherited second error.
Jones climbed to second. relegating Youse to
third. McGovern's YZ had a mechanical problem and he called it quits in mota one. The
checkers greeted Bainbridge. Jones and
Youse, in that order.
Mota two started as a repeat of moto one;
the holeshot went to Parks, followed by an
early spill that look him out of contention.
Jones put his YZ four-stroke into the lead,
hoping for a 2-1 finish to take the overall. It
was not to be: Jones committed an error in
exactly the same location that had claimed
Parks twicel This error (not a spill, but very
close to a get-off) put Bainbridge in the frontrunning spot, and he stayed there the entire
mota. Jones hung on to second, and Youse
again came home third.
