AMA CYCLE NEWS SANCTIONED day's 125cc main with a fourth behind his pal Willoh, but then he traded places in the tally with WilJoh in Friday's 250cc feature. Although plagued by back pain all weekend, Bogard showed he could ride through it, and the results got even better for Bogard. On Saturday, he wore a path to the winner's circle by taking third in Saturday's 125cc main after another great battle with Willoh. He backed that up with a second-place finish in the 250cc race. Bogard's results capped a fine season, and Bogard will be trading in his number-17 plate for Willoh's old number four plate next season. AXO/RG3/Herb's Cycle Town-sponsored Brad Hagseth piloted the only Yamaha to make the podium on either night by taking third in Saturday's 250cc main, topping off steady 5-7-5 performances in the earlier racing. 2000 APPALACHIAN DUAL SPC)RT TC)UR MAY 6 & 7 ...c:» ... ~ .. In the Extreme Freestyle Jump contest, Minden, Nevada's "Amazin'" Mike Mason was a big hit with the fans, handily winning both night's jump offs. Mason was also the event's top-scoring local pro racer, posting an 11-12 score Friday night before twice breaking the top 10 Saturday with a 9-6 tally. FRIDAY New Mexico's Justin Buckelew showed up at Reno to try Arenacross racing for the first time. The Yamaha of Troy/Fox/Oakley-sponsored 18year-old posted the fastest official time in the 125cc hot laps at 35.212 seconds - a half-second faster than Antunez. In the 125cc main, Buckelew proved he was for real when he tucked his Yamaha in behind Stephenson's leading Suzuki, with Antunez, Mike Hodges, Demuth, Willoh and the rest of the field giving chase. After a few laps, Buckelew took the lead from Stephenson in a bold move on the exit of the rocker section. Buckelew, Stephenson and Antunez formed a freight train, as they raced only a bike length apart out front for a number of laps. Willoh settled into fourth - where he seemed happy to stay - with Bogard fifth. Just behind them, Billy Payne was looking for a way to get around Travis Hodges, but a hard Registration at Headquarters Registration Mandatory Riders' Meeting Last Check- Out KTM Lunch 6 :OOPM Last Check-In 6:00PM CYCLE NEWS/OUNLOP/ANSWER/ SUZUKI Dinner.
