Cook was the next to fall off the pace as both Roth and Bloomfield went by for fifth and sixth. Baron started to move back as he moved around Sharp for eighth. Woods looked to be gaining time as the gap between himself and WaIters was just more tnan six seconds with just over two laps remaining. However, Woods ran into some bad luck. "Front end washed out and I just couldn't start my bike," said Woods. "When I got it running, four corners later there was the checkered flag." When asked if he had anything for Walters at the end, Woods added, "I didn't try to push to catch Walters in the beginning, I thought he would got by Bloomfield by moving into fifth. Before' the the charge of Ward, Walters and Myers got to him Davis passed Cook in the first corner for third. One lap later, as the pack came back into view, Davis was in the second spot followed by Leach and Ward. Taylor was trying to keep Walters behind him, ringing everything out of the Suzuki from corner to corner. On lap seven, Woods' lead was 15 seconds over Davis, who was about to give in to Ward and later on WaIters, who was being held up by traffic. Walters finally outgunned Taylor on the start sweeper to move within two spots of Ward, who he had to beat to win the overall. "I didn't know that Spud and Myers In the second moto Leach pulled both went down and then I didn't know that Walters was catching me," said Ward. By the next lap Ward had caught up with second place Davis, but WaIters was now behind Ward. "I was pacing myself because I saw that after Davis there was only Woods out front and knew I was going to get past Davis because he was starting to tire," said Ward. "I shouldn't have paced myself but I just didn't know and we forgot to bring a the holeshot again, but by the third corner Walters had taken over first place with Cook and Woods sitting in pit board. Had I known earlier I might have had a chance to pick up my pace." third and fourth. "I had 27th pick of the gate, but I kept telling myself I was going to get a good start," said Woods. "I left the With two laps remaining, Ward tried to go underneath Davis on the start sweeper while Walters tried the outside to get around both Davis and Ward. Davis went wide in the entrance to the switchbacks and Ward tried to go on the inside, but that line was just a little slicker than the main line and Walters was able to get the position from Ward and make the pass stick to move into third. Davis started to tire again, letting Walters and Ward go by in the whoop section. This time Davis just backed off his pace a little and was able to hold on to a top ten spot. "I saw second and third in front of slow down at the end of the moto. And the last two laps I was going to push real hard to catch him, but then I went down." Walters slowed down on the final lap but was still 30 seconds clear of second place Myers, when the checkers came out. Ward finished third, with Roth and Bloomfield in tow. Sixth belonged to Baron followed by Ryan Dudek, Chris Neitzel, Sharp and Cook. throttle on a little longer and by the second corner was in the top five." Myers' start could have been better. as he went down just after the first corner and would have to work up from last. When the pack came through to complete lap one Walters had disappeared and Leach was sitting in the top spot. Second was Woods followed by Cook, Bloomfield, Davis, Sharp, Roth, Ward and Taylor. Walters came around just in front of Myers in ninth place. "I felt really good getting to the front and I was already pulling a gap on the rest of the field," said Walters. "Going into the back section I went into the turn a little too hot and the front end washed out. It was slippery in the corners." As the race continued Woods came out of the little canyon section in first pursued by Leach and Cook. Then Roth and Ward got around Sharp for sixth and seventh. Davis worked by Bloomfield for fourth as they cleared the "Delbert Tabletop." Ward and Roth were side by side off the descending double, but Roth controlled the inside on the start sweeper. Ward would not be denied as he took the long way around Roth to move into sixth. Woods had opened up a seven second lead on Leach as they started lap five. Ward was coming on strong and me and when I saw the two-lap sign I just kicked it up a notch and got by both of them," said Walters. The KTM Powerhouse-backed Woods took the second moto win. Walters secured second with Ward taking the third spot. Taylor, with help from BBR/Smith/AXO came back from the first moto crash to take fourth, followed by Leach. Davis held on for sixth, followed by Myers, Bloomfield and Cook. Sharp rounded out the top ten in the moto. eN Speedworld Motocross Parle Phoenix, Arizona Results: March 26, 2000 [Round 1 of 111 4-STRK PRO MOTO 1: 1. Spud Walters (Yam): 2. Scott Myers (KTM); 3.
