one, but the freestyle guys have done a lot for the motorcycle industry in general. I wish Travis the best of luck in winning Supercross and outdoor national races, but I'm sure he'll be back on the vent Weekends freestyle scene full time one day. Who is the biggest influence on your life today? I'd definitely have to say my wife [Rose]. She helps me on the business end of things and makes sure everything's taken care of as far as that's concerned. What business ventures are you involved in? As I mentioned before, I own Come and see vintage motorcycles and racing at the AMA Vintage Motorcycle Days West my own company, MetzgerMotorsports.com, and I'm working on turning my Web site into an online Apri/28-30 dealer as well as a freestyle/ freeride-type magazine to keep our fans and friends informed of everything that's going on with our schedules. I'm also working on a deal with the top five guys who've been in freestyle motocross since the beginning, since "Crusty." There's actually six of us who are putting an organization together so we can be doing what we want, taking the sport where we want to take it instead of putting up with promoters like PACE, who are trying to take over and do what they want without the input of the riders. So it will almost be like a union to which you won't owe dues? No, it's going to be our own promotion group. As far as what I've seen through the years, PACE is basically putting on an amateur jump contest right now. You don't have a jump contest with doubles that are less than 60 feet long; that's ridiculous. Where do you see freestyle motocross in five years' time? Five years from now, I will defi- see the country's top racers in the Progressive Motorcycle Insurance SUpel1Jike Challenge May 5-7 =CRmSE~ __ AMERlCA~ n Ull'l'AL 8 UJ.IlI Sonomafest includes: Demo Rides. My goal is to have a three-rider team based out of a semitruck, traveling worldwide to do jumping shows and contests. I think we'll also be going bigger with the X-Games and Gravity Games and see more TV networks involved. It's definitely going to grow; everyone's interested right now. Where do you see yourself in five years' time? I will definitely still be in the sport. Whether or not I will still be riding fu~1 time in competition, I'm not sure. It depends on how my body feels five years from now. But I'll definitely be working with more riders and making sure the sport's going where we want it to go. eN eye. e n e _ os • APRIL 12, 2000 51
