Pingree's front brake disc was severely tweaked and although he stayed in the race for points he basically cruised around the entire time. Pingree came into the race nine points ahead of Bentley, but his disastrous night now has 'Ping' in second place. a distant 10 points back going into the final. The mood was glum in the Suzuki-support team's pits after the race and Pingree was unavailable for comment afterwards. F&S Suzuki's Danny Carlson followed Pingree, with IMS/Maxxis' Donald Upton crossing the finish line next. Planet Honda's Jason McCormick, Alba Yamaha's Anthony Amaradio, Planet Honda's Isaiah Johnson, Lineman Cycles Jason Thomas and Mach 1's Daniel Blair rounded out the field. 1:11I ..1Iett I. Upcoming Rounds: Round 7: Dallas, Texas, April 8 East-West Shootout, las Vegas, Nevada, May 6 One of Minnesota's most popular motocross racers is Great Lakes Aviation/Larson's Cycles· backed Heath Voss, who hails from Prior Lake, Minnesota. Making the 250cc main is nothing new for the hard-working journeyman, but winning a semi is. This year, Voss finally won what he considers his first qualifier victory ever, and what better way to do that than in front of your home crowd? "I won the semi at Daytona, but this is actually a Supercross, here," said Voss, who is one of the friendliest people you'd ever want to meet. "It [winning the second semi at Minneapolis) was incredible. The crowd was real, real loud, and everybody was behind me. I couldn't even hear my bike run. "I just tried to keep it all together and not throw it away," Voss said of his semi win. '" think I've gotten fifth place in the heat races four times this year, and' got sixth this time, so I'm just missing out on the heat races. n Unfortunately for Voss, things went downhill quickly in the main event. Ricky Cannichael (4) took the holeshot in the 250cc main but eventually crashed while running second. Jeremy McGrath (11 passes Tortelli and is about to go after Brock Sellards (18). The defending Supercross Champion got an eighth-place start and worked his way up to third. "I made it three laps," he said. "I had a good start about sixth or seventh - and , just endoed at the end of the whoops before the finish line and tweaked the front end of my bike. I also hit my head, broke my visor and stuff." This isn't the First time Voss has landed on his "dome" lately. "In St. Louis, my footpeg fell off in the first practice," Voss explained. "I was going over the finish-line jump and' hit the ground real quick. , didn't know what had hap· pened. I had a concussion, and didn't know where I was for about four hours. Then, I hit my head on Friday here. I wiped it over the finish-line jump again, and then I hit my head in the whoops in the main. I have blurry vision when' ride. It's been a tough week. "Hopefully I can get back on the pace when I left off at Heath Voss got a chance to talk to the home Daytona." 10 APRIL 5, 2000 • cue I e n e VII' !Ii crowd after his semi-race win.
