I:N Monster Moumain Motocross Tallassee, Alabama Results: March 4-5, 2000 [Round 2J ound two of Alabama's Super Bowl of Motocross Series is in the record books, and what a show it was! Riders from all over came to Monster Mountain to try to cash in on the giant Pro purse and the huge trophies being awarded to the amateur winners. Georgia's Matt Shue, coming off a career-best SX finish in Atlanta, was there, as was Connecticut's Tony Lorusso, who was looking to repeat his strong performance in the first round. Also present was Clark Stiles, previous race star Derrick Fisher and a host of others. Track conditions were perfect both days, and an outstanding effort by track staffers Greg Cole, Johnny Borders and Gary Blackwell made sure the spectators were treated to the best show ever. In Saturday's B-class action, no one rider proved to be dominant. In the 250cc class, Alabama's Jason Grier used a second-moto win to take the overall ahead of first-moto winner Louie Reynolds; they were followed by Brian McLeod, Rob Kernaghan and Joseph Siragusa. The 125s were bested by Florida's Zack Lundy, as first-moto winner Brian Gray was unable to complete the second race. Lundy was foilowed by Ty Conway and Reynolds in the overall standings. Only two riders managed wins in the C divisions. Alabama's Jason Mooney won both 250cc motos, followed by David Moon and Jeremy Fowler, and Chris Chandler swept the 125cc field, chased by Dereck Fore and Mooney. In the D classes, only Milan Harris was able to win two motos, both in the 250cc class. In 125cc action, John Anthony and T.e. Lightsey split wins, with the overall going to Anthony. The Youth D win went to a hard-charging BradleS' Wright, followed by Josh Hunter and Georgia's Chase Borders. In the 85cc Senior class, Yamahamounted Drew Askew swept both motos, followed by Jonathan West and Blake Massey. Massey also won the 85cc (12-13) class. The overall in the Junior division went to Wright after he split moto wins with Cole Boutwell. Hunter finished third. Boutwell won the 65cc (10-11) group, and Ashley Vickery swept the 65cc Juniors. The 50cc Oil-injected-class win went to Byron Dillard, followed by Michael Norris and Hunter Boles. The 50cc (4-6) win went to Heath Harvison, and Luke Davie swept the 50cc (7 -9) group. Sunday morning dawned clear and warm. The pre-race odds makers were betting on Matt Shue to take all the marbles, as he is ob~iousiy on a roll following Atlanta. Shue put in fine rides, but at day's end, the top steps on the podiums were occupied by others. In 125cc action, it was Derrick Fisher. The Suzuki-mounted speedster managed to take the overall after splitting moto wins with Lorusso. in the first moto, Shue grabbed the start, but a determined Fisher made the pass and held on to take the win ahead of Shue, Lorusso, Stiles and Jarrett Tipping. In the second moto, Shue again grabbed the lead, with Lorusso, Stiles and Fisher close behind. Stiles bobbled slightly on the second lap and lost contact with the leaders. Shue, Lorusso and Fisher continued to pull away, and the race order looked set. Then, on lap six, Shue finally gave in to the pressure and made a small miscue, allowing both Lorusso and Fisher to pass. Sixteen riders I ined up in the 250cc Pro division, and coming out of the first turn, the bright blue Yamaha of Clark Stiles was in the lead, with a horde of yellow bikes after him. Lorusso was in second, followed by Shue and Fisher. This remained the order into the fifth lap, when Lorusso passed Stiles for the lead at the same time Fisher passed Shue to take over third. After 20 minutes of bar-banging, the finishing order was Lorusso, Stiles, Fisher and Shue, with a hard-charging Jon Boy Monk rounding out the top five. The second-moto lineup was slightly different; Fisher didn't answer the bell for the finale. Lorusso grabbed the start, with Stiles, Shue and Tipping in tow. Tipping was on the gas, trying to salvage a top finish after a horrific endo in the first moto dropped him to 16th place in the standings; however, the Florida rider had to settle for fourth. A rather uneventful moto ended with Lorusso on top, followed by Stiles, Shue and Tipping. In the Vet division, Florida's John Lundy managed to take the overall honors in the Over 35 class after strong showings in both the 125cc and 250cc Pro contests. Lundy split Over 35 moto wins with popular local rider Darryl Heisler, but he took the overall with a strong second-moto win. Track manager Borders was second with a 2-2 score.
