On the open highway, the DR hums along at 60 mph as comfortably as can be expected for a "smallbore" single-cylinder thumper, and it does so without too much dancing around underneath you (even on the D.O.T. knobby tires that we mounted to our test bike). The DR is pretty fast on top, too. One time, I had it approaching 90 mph on a smooth dirt road before scaring myself silly and rolling off \he throttle. At these speeds, the DR-Z tends to wallow around a bit, but there was plenty left under the hood. Speaking of the number 90, that's roughly how many miles you can get out of the DR's 2.6 (including reserve)-gallon fuel tank, but 80 miles is a more realistic and safer figure to use when planning cross-country rides. 2000 Suzuki DR-Z400S So, is there anything we don't like about the DRZ400S? Nothing major, really, but our bike does have a slight lean spot that causes some on/off throttle hesitation. Oh yeah, handguards would've been nice, but who's to complain with all of the other nice features and improvements? In conclusion, Suzuki certainly upped the ante when it comes to off-the-shelf dual sport motorcycles, just like they did with the introduction of the DR350S 10 years ago.
