Saturday's trial featured 54 entries riding three loops to 10 sections laid out in the northeast portion of the racetrack. Trialmasters Bill Markham and Ron Haase provided safe, challenging sections for all. Honda T1125-mounted Jeff Latimer topped the 16-entry Modern Classic Novice class, dropping just two points on the day. This edged out Suzuki rider Rick Wheeler, whose four-point ride included a "clean" last loop. Wesley Poole came in third with a score of six. David Boydstun piloted his Yamaha TY175 to a perfect, no-point day to win in Modern Classic Intermediate over Mark Jacobsen and Gerald Biggers. There was a good turnout of Premier Lightweight entries, and close competition, as just four points separated the top three finishers. BSA rider Bill McClinton edged the Cotton Starmaker of Bruce Stevens and the Triumph Tiger Cub of Don Duquette for the victory. The motocross featured 260 entries from across the nation racing on a long, serpentine track covering 42 APRIL 5, 2000' cue • e the entire facility. Numerous jumps and switchbacks made it a challenge to pass other competitors, and with lap times in the three-minute range, the motos ran for four laps each. A large entry of 250cc Intermediates saw Honda CR250 rider Tony Failla turn his "stand on the gas" riding style into a pair of moto wins, while AJS Stormer-mounted Gary Cochell finished the day as runnerup, over Tom Rogers. Arizona rider John Gonzalez, in only his second AHRMA National, swept the Classic 125cc Novice racing; fellow Husqvarna rider Jason Lessley went 5-2 for second overall, ahead of Honda SL125-mounted Wayne Rantz. The Team Villiers vs. Team BSA battle resumed at Perris in Premier Lightweight Expert, and Mike Atkins and his BSA C 15 again put a stamp on the competition with two wire-towire romps over the Villiers-powered Francis-Barnett of Allen Wenzel; BSA-mounted Terry Pratt was third. Yamaha-mounted Chuck DeRan was another rider with a perfect score, in the Over 50 Intermediate division, defeating 12 other riders along the way. CZ rider Mike Damon was second after 7 -2 rides, nipping the 6-4 score of Benny Chien. eN Parris Raceway Perris, C8lifl1mia Results: MIIrch 18-19, 2000 [RDunds 4/31 Trials PREM H/W NOV: 1.
