Team Suzuki's 250cc National Champion Greg Albertyn broke his right femur in a crash during practice on
Friday, and will be out of action for about three
months. according to Team Suzuki team manager
Roger DeCoster. DeCoster said it was a slow-speed
fall in which Albertyn got cross, rutted and stepped off
his bike.
Albertyn was immediately transported to a nearby
hospital, which the team didn't find suitable, so he was
taken to Atlanta Medical Center. DeCoster said the
second facility had a team of four doctors waiting, and
that the treatment was first-rate.
"Less than five minutes after we arrived, we had Xrays," DeCoster said.
Albertyn underwent surgery to have a pin inserted
in the femur, and Albertyn immediately began to
improve. -He already stood on it this morning,"
DeCoster said on Saturday aftemoon.
According to DeCoster, the surgery went "as good
as it can go fOT a broken femur. It's a little bit early to
say when he'll be back. If everything goes well, it's
about three months." DeCoster said Albertyn is
expected to be released from the hospital on Sunday and then will retum to his Califomia
home. DeCoster said there are no plans to temporarily fill Albertyn's position in the team.
