The final race in the first round of motos was the event's title race - the Maico Championships. The relentless rain and the soggy conditions, however, chased most of the would-be contenders away, leaving just three riders on the starting gate. One of those riders was Doughty, who splashed his way to the overall and Expert class win, while Egloff topped Scott Doty in the Intermediate divi- sion. According to Doughty, there ,was plenty of interest in the Maico Championships in the months and weeks leading up to the race, but the weather, for all intents and purposes, washed out its inaugural run. "I'd say we had roughly 150 (total) entries that actually drove into the park, and who knows how many woke up, looked out the window and went back to bed," Doughty said. "But we're already planning for the next Maleo Championships. We're looking into April of next year and hope to miss the rain." Even the die-hards on this day had had just about as much fun as they could handle after the first round of motos, so it was decided to cancel the second set of motos, but not before having one last race for anyone who wanted to compete - just for fun. Ten to 15 riders took to the starting gate for a final romp around the saturated REM track, including Bell, who led most of the 10-lap race before his throttle finally quit throttling all together. Somebody on a brown motorcycle, with brown riding gear and brown number plates won. eN 610n Holon Ra.oway San Bomardino, California Rosults: Fobruary 20, 2000 MAICO C'SHIPS EX: 1. Rick DoU9hty. "LAS VEGAS EXTREMES" (# I00) Las Vegas Extremes consist of a whole mess of illegal and highly dangerous tricks performed by three extremely talented riders in such riding areas as the freeways, canyon roads, and even down the world famous Las Vegas Strip. Not only will you see death defying stunts being performed on public highways, but you'll be kept in stitches by the sense of humor these guys have. Did someone mention stitchesl More like staples! See Pauly loop it down Main Street and witness the bloody aftermath, if you dare. Featured music: Guttermouth, The Vandals, Total Chaos, Buck Wild, My Superhero,Agent Orange and The Dead Kennedys.
