Lightweight TT winner and lap record holder John McGuinness is set to make his single-cylinder debut aboard the 720cc Chrysalis Racing AMDM at this year's Isle of Man TT in June. The machine is a new version of the one that the late Dave Morris won the 1999 Singles non. In doing so, he won in Thailand and Malaysia and led in two more races, including the round in China, before being forced to retire with mechanical problems when set for victory. The British Superbike and Supersport classes are now recognized as Europe's most competitive fourstroke National race series, and if Vermeulen lives up to the expectations of RS team owner Russell Savory and his team manager Mick Grant - as well as Aussie-based Barry Sheene. who recommended him to old friend/rival Grant - expect him to contest some of the European rounds of the World Supersport/Stocksport series held in the second half of the season. The AMA fears a U.S. Forest Service proposal to change the way it collects fees for special-use permits could price motorcycle'events out of national forests. In a six-page letter to the Forest Service, the AMA spelled out a variety of concems related to the new proposal. including the lack of an appeal process and the lack of a cap on how much the Forest Service can charge organizations wanting to stage events on forest land. The Forest Service is proposing the new rules to cover costs associated with processing applications for special-use permits, and for monitoring compliance with conditions of the permits. Such permits are needed for events such as enduros held On forest land. The lowest fee category, for permits that take up to eight hours to process, would require a $75 processing fee and no monitoring fee. The price jumps to $750 for processing and $239 for monitoring for a permit that takes 36 to 50 hours to process and 36 to 50 hours to monitor. The most expensive fee category applies to special permits that take more than 50 hours to process and more than 50 hours to monitor. The category does not spell out the specific fee, but allows the Forest Service to charge "full reasonable costs as required, determined on a case-by-case basis.'
