Then, with three laps to go, Hadsell crashed hard coming out of the gator pit, ending his race. Farnell took the lead. Renner, Walker and Carsten freighttrained around the hard-packed course as they battled for second. Farnell sailed across the finish line for the first-moto victory. Renner once again shot into the lead to start moto two, with Farnell, Carsten and Woods in pursuit. Farnell dropped out on lap two, and Reed and Lorusso broke into the top five. Woods moved by Carsten, only to crash a few turns later, remounting in sixth. Reed closed in on the leader and made a pass on the elevator. KYLE MYERS GAINESVILLE, FL, JAN. 30 R onnie Tichenor and Barry Carsten were the Pro-class winners at the fifth and final round of the Unlimited Sports Florida Winter AMA Series, held at Gatorback Cycle Park. Hadsell then displaced Reed. Walker closed in on Farnell for second. Walker powered by Farnell for second as the white flag came out. Tichenor held on for the easy win over Walker, Farnell, Hadsell and Reed. Tichenor rocketed into the lead to start moto two, with Walker, Farnell, Renner and Reed in tow. Reed quickly passed Renner and then Farnell for third. Planet Honda-backed Walker sailed by Tichenor on the elevator to take the point. Muhlenberg County Agriculture Center Stiles steals the spotlight By DAVID H. SCREWS 6PHOTO BY THE PlCTCRE MAN GREENVIUE, KY, JAN. 29-30 Backed by Robert Patterson of Sarge's Cycle in Columbia, Tennessee, his father, and national sponsors· Axo, Acerbis, N-Style, SplitFire, Oakley, Bridgestone, Renthal, Noleen, Wiseco, Boyesen, Works Connection, White Brothers, and IMS Racing • Clark Stiles has his sights set on national recognition. He's djsciplined, training every day of the week, both on and off his bikes. He's dedicated, trav· eling every weekend to either a local, regional or national event. He's determined and goal· oriented. Along with his Sarge's Cycle Racing Team mechanic. Billy Winn, he spends hours on end tuning and tweaking his two Suzukis to get in sync for any MX track, regardless of how tight and technical or how long and fast it is. His short-term goals include making the cut, the heats. and the mains of the remaining 250cc East Supercross Series. His long·term goals, at least for the year 2000, include a top finisher position in the 250cc outdoor Nationals and a podium spot in the Pro Sport class at Loretta's. Not known as a holeshot hot shot, Stiles makes up for this flaw with his aggression, drive, desire, and cunning. In Greenville, Kentucky. at the second and third rounds of Ezell Sports Promotions' Greenville Indoor Motocross Series, Stiles won every heat. every main, and every motocross Dash For Cash except for one event. On the final day of the series, Nick Metcalf, a St. Louis Power Sports-sponsored Suzuki rider and a consistent top-20 finisher in the National Arenacross Series, lined up with Stiles in the 125cc A class, and the two got down and dirty and did a lot of dirt slinging in their clash for the win. In the four· lap heat, Stiles dogged and defeated Metcalf, putting him behind him as he had everyone else throughout the entire series. However, in the main, Metcalf took a commanding holeshot over the pack and, although Stiles dug down deep, he couldn't quite reel Metcalf in. Still, it was not a bad showing for Stiles: Out of 15 races against some tough regional and national talent, he'd only dropped one race in 125cc A, 250cc A and Dash For Cash competition.
