Who's taking all the money? Where's the money? My father.in·law, a retired business· man and avid television sports fan. came to our home for dinner recently and afterwards I turned on the Hous· ton Supercross on espn2. He couldn't believe that a motorcycle event could fill the Astrodome. He has never been to a motorcycle race in his life, and he watched the entire event· excited to see the McGrath/Vuillemin show· down. After Jeremy destroyed the field, he asked how much prize money first place receives, and I told him. He laughed in disbelief, and said, "You're kidding. Who's taking all the money?" I've wondered the same thing myself. Jerry Anderson jerryaOfiber.net Single in SX I just want to say that the Indy Super· cross was superb. EA Sports and PACE, I thank you. The crowd was orderly, and the format ran smooth and fast. And all the top riders were at the front of the pack. And if Sue in Section 337, Row 12 sees this, e·mail me. Editor Godspeed, Jim Davis I went to the Springfield Mile and its $100,000 race to watch my heroes in action. My main goals were to see Scott Parker in action and to hopefully speak with Jim Davis. Thanks to Dave Despain, I was able to do both. Thank you for the great tribute to Davis in last week's paper (Issue #6, February 16). I have been riding motorcycles since 1955, and I love them as much today as I did then. Calvin Vaughn St. Lou;s. MO WW/D? I also found your WWJD headline (Issue #4, February 2) in regard to Jeremy McGrath offensive. As a Christian who has read the Bible in its entirety, I already know What Would Jesus Do. Now after reading the new Cycle News each week, I know What Would Idiots Do. L. Greer Springdale. A"R The last on WWJD I am a bit confused how you can take any ownership to a four-letter acronym ("Voices." Issue #6, Febru· ary 16). There are multiple meanings to quite a few things in life and what it means to one person may mean something different to others. Just because your family groups four words together, does not mean that all peo· pie do or have to. "The worst taste I have ever seen" is someone who talks about religion, then passes judgment on others. We are all here for a reason and I am sure that reason is not to be judged by you . isn't .that someone else's job? I am also sure that Mr. McGrath has done nothing to you and your family to warrant having his name dis· paraged in public. Not too many people have a chance to make an impact on others. At the first effort with the Modenas, or that of his U.S.G.P. at Laguna, I partied with a son on the Suzuki. cue I e I am now awake to the fact that I need to support our American boys in the Grand Prix wars. I relish the thought of bringing any of the AMA or FIM titles home. I am ashamed that Erv Kanemoto and John Kocinski can't find enough support to keep a team together. I am saddened to think that Jimmy Filice was never given a full GP ride. I am excited to contem· plate the possibility of Colin Edwards bringing home the World Superbike title; along with Roberts doing the same in the 500cc GP class. Now all we need is a 250 and 125cc rider. What I'm trying to say here is: How can I help and support American motorcycle riders? I am here to help in any way that I possibly can. Give me that damn Modenas . I know in my heart I can win. Bob Se;m Arroyo Grande, CA Moto dad likes Pastrana Having a son racing motocross for the past three years and wanting to see him de.velop into the best "per· son" possible, I felt compelled to write about Travis Pastrana. We have had the pleasure of meeting him and being at a few of the same races he was contesting, and I must say he is one cool guy. He's very easy to like and admire as a person, in addition to being talented as a rider. In my opinion, Supercross and the AMA Nationals are beginning to grow and people like Travis will take our sport to even greater heights. NASCAR' portrays very good images of their racers, and there's a lot of fan appreciation. Pastrana is a master at this, and he does it from the heart, setting an outstanding example for all the up and coming stars of motocross. Keep up the good work, Travis. commend you and your parents.
