Steve Wilbanks was quickest out of the gate, leading Hooker, Douglas Beardon and Chris King early in the first moto. Wilbanks ran out front for four laps before Hooker finally managed to work his way around him and into the lead. Hooker held off Wilbanks for the win, with Beardon earning third over Mark Broneau. Abingdon, Virginia Bicycling, Personal Watercraft, Tubing, Riding Z-50s with friends 0nI1EII lilli_IS The second mato was all Hooker's, as he MOTOIICYCLE made his way into the lead on the opening lap and controlled the pace out front until the checkers waved for a 1-1 tally. The secondplace trophy went to Wilbanks, with a 2-2 score. Bearden (3-3), Broneau (5-4) and King (4-5) rounded out the top five. Gabi Abayou was untouchable in the first Vet Novice moto, going wire to wire for the win. WilUam Welchhance gated in second and held off Michael Penta at the checkers to finish Ln the same position. Shy Moshe got around Ray Ritzier for fourth. Abayou ripped another good start on his Honda, but by lap two of the second mota, Penta was running out front, followed by We1chhance and Abayou. Penta proved to be the fastest this time out, collecting the win and coming out on top of a three-way points tie for the overall honors. We1chhance's 2-2 tally got the better of Abayou's 1-3 score for second overall. In 125cc Beginner action, Suzuki-mounted Robert Clark led every lap of the opening moto for the victory over Anthony Barbacovi and Brad Goolsby. It looked like Clark was on his way to duplicating his first-mota showing when a crash at the midway point handed the lead to Barbacovi. Barbacovi, on his Nationwide Cycle/FMF / Answer/N-style-backed YZ125, continued, earning the overall win during his first-ever attempt at the 125cc class since moving out of the 80cc ranks. Clark recovered for second overall ahead of Jesse King and Goolsby.
