Zachary got the point on Kerr, but then he gave Kerr the green flag when he slid out in the landing sweeper off the Catapult. Both L.G. Tretter and Jonon got by Zachary, but Zachary remounted and got back into the race quickly, almost catching Jonon for third on the last lap, showing him his front tire several times. In the 125cc Intermediate main, the holeshot went to D&S Honda's Cody Rheinlander as the pack entered the whoops out of the first turn. Team Green/Carrollton Kawasaki/Pro Privateer's Jeremy Durrett chased Rheinlander for four laps before he could close in for the kill over the third rocker to take the lead. Rheinlander never lost sight of Durrett, and they continued to race closely, with Cantrell watching from the wings. The Collegeboy start was a repeat of the 125cc Intermediate start, with Rheinlander taking the holeshot in front of Durrett. Both raced heartily and boldly for three laps before Durrett made a clean dive under Rheinlander in the landing sweeper off the Catapult on lap four to grab the lead. K&N Motorcycies/MDR's Ryan Dirks and Arlington Suzuki/MSR-sponsored Dusty Fountain battled over third place for the first three laps as well, with Fountain passing Dirks on lap four and holding on to the position to the checkered flag. North Texas Yamaha/Silkolene's Thomas Schuler took the holeshot and led the 125cc Schoolboy field from start to finish, with Pro Action/ Wiseco's Danny Kelsey and Bardwell Yamaha/Capitol Collision/ Fox/Scott's Danny Waldrop in sizzling pursuit. The speed of the top three riders had spectators on the edge of their seats, as the least little error would have changed the outcome of the race. But as the three front-runners separated from the rest of the class, their positions remained the same. Spy/Fox-backed Caleb Dowell powered off the gate in the 50cc (4-6) main, chased by Bryant's Masonry's David Bryant from start to finish, as both riders extended their lead considerably on the rest of the class. Bryant fell in the whoops on the last lap, but he had ample time to remount and still finish the race in second place. CN 6FI Winter MX Series North Round 1: Oalfield Raceway Holland's haulin' 'em in By rQRLOCK,CA,JAN.16 usty Holland, aboard a Moto DeMarini/Troy Lee Designs/ Torco-backed Suzuki, simply left the competition behind en route to a double moto win in the 125cc Pro class at round one of the 2000 GFI Winter MX Series, held at Oatfield Raceway. Jeff Pestana chalked up a victory in the 250cc Pro class with a 1-2 moto score against a ] O-rider field that included National Off-Road Champion Rodney Smith, who showed he's still fast on a motocross track. The American Suzuki rider posted a solid third in the 250cc Pro class and won the Over 30 Pro class. Despite some early morning rain, by race time conditions were ideal, and nearly 400 riders took to the track on the day. Contingencies from all four major brands - Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and Yamaha - were up for grabs. Also joining the contingency bandwagon this year was KTM, which offered U.S. Savings Bonds to the top three overall series winners in the 50cc and 60cc divisions. When the gate dropped for the 125cc Pro moto, Pestana took the holeshot, with Holland and Jeff Northrop close behind. Holland cleared the long downhill triple, making up valuable time on Pestana, as Smith moved his way up behind Northrop. On the second lap, Pestana and Holland came over the finish-line jump side by side, and neither wanted to let off for the ensuing left-hand turn. Holland had the inside line, and he left Pestana with nowhere to go except wide. The move was clean and gave Holland the lead. "You know, we both came in hot," Holland noted later. "He didn't want to let off and neither did I, but I had a wheel on him and I capitalized on it." R Will Rogers Coliseum Fort Worth, Texas Results: January 9, 2000 50 (4·6): I. Caleb Dowell (Cob); 2. "The national off-road season starts in March, and I'm just out here for practice." Truglio, lurking in fourth at the time, benefited from the mishap. The Merced Powersports/Fox-backed rider kept ahead of Fisher, who was right on_ his tail. However, Fisher later went down in the whoops, handing fourth to Davis, who also pressured Truglio. Meanwhile, Northrop made his way around Davis, a move that netted him a 2-4 score and second overall on the day. "I'm not really sure what happened coming out of the whoops," Northrop said of the tangle with Smith. "Rodney's a friend, and I surely didn't want something like that to happen." TrugliO tallied a 6-3 score, good enough for third overall on the day. "I messed up in the whoops after getting into third and thought Davis might get me," Truglio said. "I was able to pull away, though, and keep ahead of Northrop." The first 250cc Pro moto had the makings of another Holland sweep. Smith trailed in second, followed by Pestana, Jon Nelson and Northrop. In fact, on the white-flag lap, Northrop was only two seconds behind Holland, while Smith maintained a lock on third. However, Holland never let Northrop get close, and eventually he took the win. Kawasaki jockey Scott Davis came across in fourth, with Jerrad Fisher barely holding off a late charge by Craig Truglio to round out the top five. "I got about a midpack start off the
