Round 13: Wilseyville Hare Scrambles
Garrahan Brothers Go
One-Two at Wilseyville
By TOM HARVEY
WILSEYVILU, CA, NOV. 20
As 52 of the fastest A riders west of the
~ecos rocketed off the line at Wilseyville,
there was little doubt that a Garrahan was
going to take the overall win. Aboard his
Maxxis/No Toil/FMF-sponsored KTM, Patrick
Garrahan looked unstoppable. With his little
brother Brian Garrahan battling Garrison Gragg
and Ryan Powell for the first two loops of the
rugged 10.2-mile course, Patrick pulled out a
S9-second lead and almost slipped away.
"I got a great start and was charging right
orf the bat," Patrick said. "With Brian in the
race, though, I knew no lead was going to be
safe. I was happy with my pace, but Brian just
doesn't get tired."
Aboard his Moose/NorCal1 RentOneOnline.com-sponsored Suzuki. Brian pitted
after the third loop and knew he was reeling in
his big brother. Patrick's lead was down to 39
seconds.
'" wasn't real happy with my start," Brian
admitted. '" started on the outside and got
pinched off. I knew as long as I was patient and
took my time, I had a shot at catching Patrick."
Just past the hidden check on loop three,
Brian had Patrick in his sights. Pulling out of the
well-worn, powdery-red race line, Brian railed
by on the outside.
"He was having a little trouble getting by a
lapper when I passed both ofthem," said Brian,
and that was all he needed, as he pulled away

hospitality of the Schaads for
allowing the 2 +2 Racing Club to
put on what has become an
awesome annual event is much
appreciated.

Patrick was a good sport, though.
"If anyone is going to beat me," Patrick said,
"I'd prefer it be Brian."
Gragg, aboard a YZ 125, maintained a
blistering pace while dicing with the 250cc A
~. Gragg stayed between the two Garrahans
for the first two loops and battled Patrick for the
last two loops before settling for a well-fought
third. Mason Harrison finished a distant fourth,
S 1/2 minutes behind Gragg. Roderick Kreiss
rounded out the top fIVE!. Nolan Irwin celebrated
his 21 st birthday in grand fashion with a welldeserved seventh-place overall.
In the C class, Damon Kroll battled with
James Lacey and Eric Habenicht for the first
two loops before distancing himself (rom the
hard-charging riders.
All in all, the atmosphere at this, the final
round of the D~trict 361Moose Western Regional
Cross Country Championship, was festive.
Spectators moved easily between the finish-line
check and the winding creek-bed section to
be surprised to see them here - _...""....
watch more than 750 riders brave the course.
The 2 + 2 Racing Club couldn't have ordered
nicer weather or laid out a better course over the
diverse terrain on the Schaad Family Ranch.
