California Racing Club Sponsorship Series
Round 5: Los Angeles County Raceway
Savatgy Sizzles
at CRC Series Finale
By GREG ROBERTSON
PALMDALE, CA, NOV. 20
oey Savatgy absolutely dominated the Mini
ranks at the fifth and final round of the 17th
annual California Racing Club/Galpin Ford/
GMO-backed Sponsorship Series, held at Los
Angeles County Raceway.
Savatgy started things off with a doublemoto sweep of the 65cc (9-1 I) class aboard his
A.V. KTM/M2R/PCS/Decal Works-sponsored
KTM. Savatgy owned both motos right from
the drop of the gate. Fellow KTM hotshot
james Wilcox would finish all by himself in
second place in both races, well ahead of
J
Nicholas Mercier in moto one and Daniel
Cartines in moto two.
It was more of the same in the 85cc (7-11)
class, as Savatgy quickly made his way to the front
of the pack in each moto on his eR8S. Blaze
Raible gave it his best shot. but he would have to
be content with a pair of runner-up finishes.
Shane Miller kept Raible honest en route to his 33 tally. Tanner Lovgren went 4-4 for fourth, and
Frank Tucker (6-5) rounded out the top fIVe.
Kawasaki-mounted Chris Carrillo went
wire to wire for the 8Scc (12-13) openingmoto victory. Vincent Yacovelli finished some
10 seconds back, ahead of jake Lyon, Trevor
Golden and Hyles Hersley.
Yacovelli got the holeshot in moto two and
soon had Carrillo all over his back fender.
Carrillo hounded Yacovelli for the entire race
before going down in the final turn. Yacovelli
coasted across the line for the overall on the
day. Carrillo was quickly back up and under
way, going 1-2 for second. Lyon used 3-4 rides
for third, over the 7-3 tally of Cory Conner.
Cody Miller has dominated the Super Pee
Wee (7-9) field throughout this series - up until
today. Mechanical gremlins knocked Miller out
of contention, leaving the door wide open for
Palini rider Joshua Fea to shine with a I-I
showing. Austin Monarch was awarded the
second-place trophy for his 2-2 efforts, over
Tanner Scogin (3-3) and Casey Langosh (6-4).
Matt Tribbey finished off the series right were
he started, dominating both the 12Scc and 250cc
Beginner classes on his KTM. Daniel Jennings and
David Fajardo argued over second place in both
motos, with Fajardo (3-2) prevailing over
jennings (2-3) when the sand stopped flying.
Dalton Bailey worked his way up into 3-2 finishes
(or second overall in 2S0cc action, with Jerry
King (4-3) rounding out the top three.
Tim Tucker was another double-class winner.
Tucker flew his Mid Cites-backed CRF4S0 to four
straight moto wins to capture overatls in both the
Senk>r Amateur and Old-Timers Master B classes.
George Andrews piloted the lone KTM in the
Senior pack to 3-2 finishes for second overall,
over the 2-5 score of Darren Cortines.
