from Gref and Honda rider Loyd Morgan until
lap three. He won by 2S seconds at the
checkers.
In race two, Silverthorn swept around Gref
at the start of lap two; then he went outside of
Morgan in the uphill/downhill hairpin for the
win. Gref advanced to second, and Rainey took
another fourth.
The Classic 12Scc class saw the Experts and
Intermediates leave the starting line together.
Craig Ught showed the way. ahead of the CZs
of Andy Blackburn and Energy, Illinois'
Dempsey Elders. While Blackburn moved to
first quickly, former ISDT medallist Dwight
Rudder was picking off riders left and right on
his Hodaka enduro. Behind Blackburn and
Elder, Lynn Williams made it a CZ sweep by
taking third in a close battle over Rudder and
Penton rider Mike Parker.
After another midpack start in race two,
Rudder asked a lot from his bike - and the
chrome·tanked machine responded. Running
wide open, Rudder moved to third. Then he
outpowered Elders on an uphill section. Next,
he caught sight of race-long leader Blackburn
on the final circuit. Riding just off Blackburn's
left shoulder on the giant downhill before the
finish, Rudder made an electrifying outside pass
in the last tum and grabbed the win. Blackburn
(1-2) won the Expert overall, over Rudder (3I) and Williams (2-4). In Intermediate scoring,
Elders went I-I for the overall.
