tight. I just kept a good pace going. When I could go fast, I went last, and when I didn't have to, I just kind of slowed down and bided my time. Justin rode good; he was on me the whole time." As they exited the motocross track and hit the grasstrack for the last time, Williamson was right on Jarrett's fender, but Jarrett kept his cool. "justin's not a dirty rider," Jarrett said, "so I know he's not going to take us both out and see who gets up first; so as long as I kept my line and kept on going and didn't make any mistakes, I knew I had it." Williamson, on the Williamsonracing.com Yamaha, officially finished one second behind Jarrett, who completed the IO-lap race in two hours, 17 minutes and 45 seconds. Fish, meanwhile, hung on for third on his KTMHutt.com/Fun Mart Cyclesl Moose KTM 250 EXC, finishing nearly two minutes behind Williamson. "Definitely the pace was different today in the Pro class," Fish said. "Usually in the A class I just rode my race, and today I was forced to ride a little bit out of my comfort zone for those first few laps." Though he demonstrated equal speed early in the race, Fish lost contact with the two leaders when he found the narrow path out of a creek blocked by a lapper, and then again when a stick locked his rear brake on. "I don't want to make excuses, but I had a bit of bad luck out there today," Fish said. "Nothing really serious, but just enough that I lost contact, and I definitely didn't have the speed to catch back up to those boys." His teammate Shane Watts motored around at a comparatively reserved pace all day, wary of injury since it was the day before his scheduled carpal-tunnel and knee surgery in California. "I'm going in for surgery tomorrow to fix things up, so I didn't want to give them any more things to fix up," he said. "My goal for the year was to not get hurt, and I didn't want to [get hurt] at the last race of the year." Dave Neumeister rounded out the top five on his Fun Mart Cycles/FMFI MSR KTM 450 MXC, finishing almost 30 seconds behind Watts. eN (Below) Jarrett pocketed the $10,000 for winning the OMA Championship. (Right) Shane Watts finished third in the race and the series overall. COOPERIAND Briefly... SnUWATU, OKlAHOMA 20, 2005 10) RESULTS: NOVEMBER (ROUND 10 OF OVERAll.: I. Jimmy Jarrett (Suz); 2. Tracy Bachman had one of his best rides in the series, finishing right behind winning A rider Charlie Deutscher after experi· encing a last lap similar to that of the Jarrett-Williamson duel. "He [Deutscher] got me at the creek crossing on the last lap just before we went onto the motocross track there," the Storm Lake Honda/FMF/So Cal CRF2S0R rider said. "I'd always been taking the rutted area the whole race and, on the last lap, there was a track worker who was pointing off to another area to go across to an easier section. I guess Charlie had been taking that for about three or four laps. He took it, and I didn't even know about it, and that's where he passed me. I was going to try to cut him off in one section, but we only had a minute lere in the race, and I didn't want to take us both out." Matt Fish certainly lived up to his expecta· tions this season. "That was my goal· to win the Open A Championship this year and then try to get on the Pro podium at the last race;' he said. ')\s I look back on the season, I met all my goals, so that's good." Justin Williamson was happy with how he improved over the course of the season. "I know I've got the speed to easily beat him Oimmy Jarrett] now;' Williamson said. ''I've really worked hard. This year, I've really gained speed, definitely. Each race Iget better and better. It just came to a huge slam this lase race. I was just feeling like I was on top of one of the clouds out there, just cruising around. I'm definitely disappointed that I didn't get the win, but I really pressed hard and got second. The series went real good for me. Next year, I'm planning to come out and really slam it hard and take the championship." CYCLE NEWS • DECEMBER 7,2005 33
