Boris Chambon landed 0 hard-earned World Championship in the S2 class. Starting from 16th in the points after the first two rounds, Chambon worked his way to the top of the standings, o' 9 three wins along the way. But Chambon's best was seen probably in the last round, where a single mistake could have blown his chances and moved the title to Adrien Chareyre or Seel. Chambon counted on extensive experience and an impressive machine to accomplish his dream. Actually Seel's hopes died immediately before the start of moto one, when he had to start back from the last row (instead of the second) because on the Sighting laps before the race he discovered that his throttle control wasn't properly fixed, and he stopped to have his mechanic fix it. Then an accident, caused in lap one by temporary teammate Troy Herfoss, basically ended his fight for the title prematurely. Adrien Chareyre won the Italian round overall, with Chambon and Verderosa second and third overall, respectively. 51 The weekend started with the absence of Aprilia's Max Manzo and TM's Valter Banolini, both temporary suspended following the positive results of the doping controls at an Italian national race. The track was the same as last year's Gp, but it ran in the opposite direction because some teams had reportedly done extensive test sessions just prior to the race weekend, and the FIM didn't want them to have an advantage. Hiemer was fastest in timed practice, running just quicker than newly crowned AMA Supermoto Champion Jurgen Kunzel; VDB - who suffered a crash in the Saturday's session; and Delepine. Superpole changed the starting grid for row one. Hiemer was still on the pole, but followed by VDB, Kunzel and Delepine. In the first mota Hiemer took the lead and had VDB attached to his tail for five laps before succumbing to an attack by the Frenchman. The '05 World Champion went on to win the moto, followed by Hiemer, and Kunzel who sat in third place the entire race. Delepine was fourth, and Lazzarini, who still wasn't completely confident at Latina after the scary crash in the previous round, was fifth. VDB took the early lead in the second moto, and he was never headed. Hiemer was second from start to finish, and Lazzarini put together some aggressive passes as he regained his confidence to finish third, after starting sixth. Lazzarini was third overall, while, Delepine rode really slowly and even crashed, but he finished sixth, and the title was secured. 52 It was a great GP for Chambon and for the impressive Chareyre brothers, as well. On Saturday Adrien Chareyre took the pole followed by Chambon, Thomas Chareyre and local favorite Verderosa. On Sunday morning Thomas Chareyre won Superpole, with Chambon, Adrien Chareyre and Verderosa behind him. In mota one Thomas Chareyre got a superfast start ahead of the others on row one, and he held the lead until, with three laps to go, he was forced to pull over with a broken engine. Chambon, who was second, won the heat followed by Adrien Chareyre, Bolley and Beltrami. SeeI started from the last row and finished Drd, following an unfortunate crash with the Australian prospective Troy Herfoss. In the second moto Chambon got the lead and didn't give it up to Adrien Chareyre until the fifth lap. Chambon then didn't even try to defend himself from the attacks of the other Chareyre, Thomas, and finished third behind them to win, in tears, his first World title. Chambon finished just three points on Adrien Chareyre in the final standings, but that was more than enough in such an embattled class and, considering that after the first two rounds he was just 16th in the standings. eN SAGGlnARIO KARnNG LAnNA, ITALY RESULTS: NOVEMBER (ROUND 8 Of 8) 13, 2005 5 I OVERALL: I.
