Haskovec was hospitalized on Formula Xtreme race at Infineon Raceway on May 14. The hardware and infected bone and tissue were removed during surgery on October I I, and bone grafts were installed. In place of the hardware, Haskovec has been fitted with an external brace. He is receiving antibiotics intravenously. ''I'm happy to be out of the hospital and home, but I miss my team, 1 miss the people at the racetrack, and I miss racing so much," said Haskovec in a statement issued by his team. "I really look forward to getting e-mail at getwellvincent@gmail.com and I appreciate everybody's support. I will be back at the track when I can. Because they had to take out the hardware in my back, I have to wear an external brace, and I can't really move right now. It's going to be at least five months before I can get out of the brace and start rehab again. After that, I want to get back out to the track to see everybody." Haskovec rode for Team Hammer Inc. during the 2004 and 2005 AMA seasons and won the 2005 AMA Superstock race at Daytona International Speedway. The winner will also be treated to a hot lap at speed around the worldfamous road course that morning. A second race fan will be rewarded with a lifetime pass, as well, for showing up at the raceway and entering a free drawing. "Since we announced our schedule, the anticipation has been growing among all of our fans to line up their 2006 tickets," said Steve Page, president and general manager of Infineon Raceway. "This will be a fun way to kick things off, and a couple of people will be setting themselves up with race tickets for life." Infineon Raceway will officially open its doors for ticket sales at 8 a.m. (PST) on Thursday, December I. All race fans who purchase a ticket to any event in person will receive a free gift, and coffee and donuts will be available for all those early risers. Show cars will be on display, including Rusty Wallace's familiar number-two Miller Lite Dodge, and track tours will be free of charge. The FIM has announced that the 2005 Indoor Trial des Nations, originally scheduled for Santa Cruz de Tenerife (Canary Islands) on November II, will now be held in Malaga, Spain, at the Martin Carpena Arena, on Thursday, November 17. The teams entered are Spain, Great Britain and France, which is replacing Japan. Flat-track and speedway practices are now being held at Perris Raceway in Perris, California, every Friday from 3 to 9 p.m. and every Saturday from 8 am. to 2 p.m. A winter flat-track and speedway racing program is also in the works, according to racing promoter Jerry Lytton. In an effort to expand its research-anddevelopment capabilities, Maxxis Tires will finish construction of three new technical centers in Asia and the United States during the next eight months. Construction is complete on the first new center, near Shanghai, China, and workers are currently putting the finishing touches on the six-story, 143,182square-foot facility, which will employ 200 engineers. Plans are also under way for construction of a nearby world-class proving ground, expected to open in 2008. The three-story, 56,694-square-foot Taiwan facility is scheduled for completion in June of 2006. Like the Shanghai center, the Taiwan operation will employ 200 engineers. A new 25,600-square-foot, one-story center in Suwanee, Georgia, near Maxxis' North American headquarters, will also open in June of 2006. The Suwanee facility will replace a smaller Maxxis tech center located in Norcross, Georgia. AHRMA has announced that suspension manufacturer Works Performance Prod· ucts will be the 2006 title sponsor of the Historic Cup road-race series. The AHRMA series features machines ranging from Harley-Davidson handshifters up through the early 19805 and the beginning of the Superbike era. The organization also offers Sound Of Singles, Battle Of Twins and Sound Of Thunder classes for modern single-, twinand three-cylinder racers. "We couldn't be happier about Works Performance Products' involvement with AHRMA," said AHRMA executive director David Lamberth. After being closed for more than a year, Sand Hill Ranch has reopened its completely rebuilt Grand Prix motocross track, according to owner Tom Anderson. Since he purchased Sand Hill Ranch back in 1973, Anderson has seen his track play host to such events as the Golden State Nationals and the original Hangover Day Marathon, He will open his new facility to the public on November 19.
