PHOlO BY JEFF COX TORO - Texas Off-road Racing Organization Round I: FrEEStone MX Park Dement Cements FreeStone Win By JENNIFER WEBB WORTHAM, TX, OCT. 16 T'he Texas Off-road Racing Organization kicked off its fifth I year at FreeStone MX Park in Wortham, Texas. This beautiful facility had never played host to an off-road event, but the crew really did a nice job of combining six miles of adjacent woods with the well-manicured motocross track. The weather was sunny and a bit on the warm side for a winter series in Texas, but few complained. Morning action kicked off with the short-course participants taking the line. The start in front of the motocross gates was groomed and watered - a sight the off-roaders were unfamiliar with. When they got out on the woods trails, the watering stopped, and when the dust settled, it was Allan Sherer taking the win in the Open C dass, while Chuck Watkins grabbed his first Victory of the year In the 2S0cc C class and Anthony 01 Mauro was at the top of the 200cc C class. After the track was cleared, the ladies and Minis were next for their 45 minutes plus a lap. Of the six 85cc Mini A riders who took the line, It was Austin Henderson finishing ahead of the bunch for the finish flagger his first victory of the season. Chris Storrie _ first in the Mini B class, and Trevor Buck did likewise at the C level. The Ladies A class was loaded with talent, but one very skilled 16-year-oid, Lauren Powell, captured the holeshot and led throughout for the win. "It was really cool lining up with Sheri Stephens and Christine Tarver," said the Richardson Motorsports/Amsoil/Yamahasponsored Powell. "Christine has raced nationally, and I took one of Sheri's courses on off-road racing several years ago. To go up against them both was an honor, but to win felt pretty cool!" Pro riders JeH Dement (29), Josh Young (3), Caleb Ramsay (22) and Matt Crouch (2) lead the charge at the TORO opener at F.-Stone MX Park. Anden; 2. Johnny Col<; l. - . . Sellers: 4.
