MOTOGP He was under no threat from Tamada, who was I I seconds back with some room on Elias and Nakano. Those two ran together starting on lap 17 and right to the end, with Elias making the pass for 10th place on the 29th lap. Kiyonari, Hopkins and Hofmann were together in the final third of the race until Hofmann dropped off the back a few laps from the flag. Hopkins had been passed by teammate Aoki on lap eight, but Aoki's day ended later that lap. "Things were going well until the engine stopped," Aoki said. Kurtis Roberts lasted until the 16th lap, when his transmission problems began to get dangerous. He explained that the motor died and fell out of gear at one point, causing him to think it had broken. But he was able to get it refired. "It's just a matter of when it's going to stop completely and hurt you," he said. "It went all the way down to 2000 rpm, and then it started to cough and run. There was something wrong with it. So we pulled in." At the time, he'd just been repassed by Ruben Xaus, who'd come by him twice on the gas, and finally when the Proton was ailing. "Every time he'd go underneath me, he'd f---ing hit me, so I just block-passed the shit out of him in the hairpin," he said. "He realized he was going to lose that battle at that point, and he was gone. The last two laps, when it was dying, he caught up to me." eN Round 17 November 6. 2005 ~ Andrea Ballerini (1:37.H6); 21.
