riders. Doug Dubach and Rick johnson arrived on the line in the
36-42 Pro class, along with the rest of the Vet X regulars. When
the gate dropped, Dubach was able to get an early lead in both
motos. Each lap, Dubach put more distance between himself
and the rest of the riders. putting almost 50 seconds on second
place by the end of the motos. It was an impressive show of
speed, culminating in a I-I sweep of the class (or the win. The
leaders of the class showed consistency, with MTA's Willy Musgrave putting his Suzuki on the second step of the podium in
both motos. Musgrave led a charging johnson, also riding a
Suzuki, to the finish, with johnson taking two third-place finishes
to take the third-overall spot.
The 28-35 Intermediate class also had quite a battle for the
win, between Fox-backed rider Mitchell Bailey and Derric
Swinfard. In mota one, Swinfard and Bailey were jockeying for
position from the start, with Swinfard taking the early advantage
and Sitting in second place, behind Race Tech/Stomp/
MTNKenda-backed Loren Pochirowski. Bailey was putting
pressure on Swinfard, and on the next lap he passed him to take
over the second spot. Swinfard was not about to go down
easily, and he charged back past on the next lap to retake
second. As they battled, they both charged toward the front,
with Swinfard in the lead and Bailey pressuring him. Meanwhile,
behind them, Factory Effex/Spy/RG3/No Toil-backed Mike
Tomlinson was quietly moving into third. At the checkered flag,
Swinfard took the win, with Bailey and Tomlinson both close
behind in second and third, respectively.
The second mota saw Swinfard take the early lead. Bailey
was again making a charge from second place, pushing (or the
entire seven laps, but he was unable to catch the leader. The
second-moto results were a repeat of the first, with Swinfard
taking a hard-earned win with his I-I tally, followed by Bailey in
second and Tomlinson third overall.
Another very competitive class, the 36-42 Novice class, had
a runaway winner, with Honda-mounted Kenny Garnica taking
big leads in both motos. Both times out, he had almost a
12-second advantage over second-placed Jeff Suter, who in turn
had a big lead over third, which was held by Eishi Kaiita. Garnica
(I-I) was the day's champion, with Suter the runner-up and
Kajita (3-3) taking third overall.
