1:48.860, but it was to be Red-
ding that prevailed in the race.
Rea, so keen to stay close after
Redding had come through to
pass him, had suckered himself
into running wide, and then the
following Chaz Davies (Aruba.it
Ducati) closed in and passed for
second place.
Rea was third, two Duca-
tis ahead, led to a short-lived
reversal of the points advantage
he had won back so strongly at
Portimao.
With one short race—probably
Rea's—and one final long 18-lap
race on Sunday at Aragon—prob-
ably Redding's or Davies' it was
not looking that good for Rea at
that time. He needed to win and
badly.
And he duly won both Sunday
races.
His Superpole race success,
from Redding, was a full push
after an early attack from fellow
front-row qualifier Loris Baz.
Rea held off all comers and with
Redding second and first-time
Aragon podium man Michael van
der Mark (Pata Yamaha) third,
it was a very cosmopolitan and
multi-colored podium. Rea broke
the lap record in that race as he
had the track best in Superpole,
with a 1:49.620 that would see
out the weekend.
