Not Happy With Open
My husband and I just returned from the
U.S. Open in Las Vegas. I have to tell you
it was the most boring performance I have
seen. Spending $400 on tickets to see
Ricky Carmichael run away with the race
was not very satisfying. Where was James
Stewart'
He didn't even have the courage to
make an appearance like Chad Reed did. I
probably will not go next year if they have
the same riders as this one. For all the hype
that this race gets ... come on get some better riders.
Where was Travis Pastrana who was
advertised as going to be there? It was a
complete rip-off. I would have paid $400 to
see Mouse McCoy instead of this crap that
was shown to me.

Supporting Dymond
Give me a break, Darryl [Atkins] - the best
man across the line first wins. Whether it's
for only a race or the championship, that's
the way it goes. For the past two weeks,
everywhere I look I see a sob story about
how Darryl got taken out by his "opponent" Micky Dymond.
First of all, Micky is not known for being
a "dirty" rider. On the contrary, over our
three years together, we've had to patch
him back up after everyone else knocked
him down. I've seen some of the nastiest
wrecks with Micky, and he never complained once - no matter what the situation. I spoke with Micky regarding the
race, and we can't make heads or tails out
of how you got hit from behind - and at
the same time Darryl's bars got taken out
from under him.
Micky says that he got past Darryl
early in the race, and Darryl actually gave
him quite a push to regain his lead over
Micky. In addition, Micky says that if it
were him in front, he would have ridden
so far over his head to check out and
keep away from this sort of situation.
Darryl was riding very defenSively to hold
his line, and he should know that anyone
in Micky's position would have taken any
opportunity to make a pass - and that
doesn't include taking the other rider out
at the same time.
The AMA called Micky to confirm that
his championship would stand and there
was no evidence of "rough" riding on the
Videotape that they had reviewed. Stop
making yourself out to be such the victim
while trying to make Micky Dymond the
"bad guy."
Oh, did I mention that Micky rode the
race with a broken leg?

Why not make the AMA Superbike race at
Daytona a doubleheader - two 100 milers
with a Supermoto race in between. Then
I'd start going again. Or better yet, race the
Supermoto on the beach.

More On Supermoto
I don't get it. What's with all the anguish and
hand-wringing about the Supermoto season
finale at Reno?
Jeff Ward, arguably one of the greatest
racers (in any discipline) this country has
ever produced, gave away the championship - not because of the double points
afforded at Reno, but because his ego
wouldn't allow him to take a safe fifth-place
finish when he only needed to score better
than 14th to be crowned champion!
I was at Reno, cheering for Wardy, and
I was stunned that he felt it necessary to
stamp his authority on the series and the
series' "posers" with an outright victory.
For crying out loud, even Mat Mladin, the
most driven (some say myopic) competitor in AMA Pro Racing, has the good sense
to "back it off" a bit when he needs to
secure his championship! (And you have
to know how it must gall Mat to do so.)
No one, no rule, no points schedule
cheated Ward out of his deserved championship. Jeff Ward did to himself what no
other Supermoto competitor could do. Jeff
Ward beat Jeff Ward!

Disappointed Colin Fan
Another awesome performance by
Valentino Rossi, a great run by Nicky
Hayden, and the usual excuses from Colin
Edwards in the Australian Grand Prix. I
have to wonder if this the same Edwards
who won the World Superbike
Championship in 2002 - when everyone
assumed it was a done deal for Troy Bayliss.
Colin's midseason charge to the champi-
_
onship was incredible. I still have the final
round on tape and watch it during the dry
season (which unfortunately is almost upon
us). There always seem to be problems
with Colin's bike that do not afflict his
teammate's machine. Second in the championship is his for the taking. The bike is
certainly up to the task - but is he?

Cop Banquet
I just wanted to pass along that on October
I I, 200S, the Fire & Police National
Championship Banquet was held at the
Casa Blanca Hotel and Resort in MesqUite,
Nevada. The Banquet immediately
followed rounds nine and 10 of the
FirePoliceMX.com Motocross Series that
was held at the MesqUite MX Park.
Jamie Little was on hand to present the
number-one plates to the many overall
champions who were crowned after the
10-race series. The final number-one plate
of the evening was handed out for the overall Fire & Police Grand National Champion
- Eric McKenna of the California
Department of Corrections.
Eric has been a longtime member of the
Fire & Police racing community since retiring as a full-time profeSSional motocross
racer. Congratulations to all of the Fire &
Police Motocross Champions.

Wow, that was some article that was written on the Nasmoto Championship in
Reno. At first glance, you would have
thought that the SM2 class with Scott
Hoffman was the premier class. So what if
he was riding Micky Dymond's bike - it didn't help.
I'm surprised the SM I class got the two
paragraphs that it did. I'd like to see you put
Jurgen Kunzel's win on the back burner.
Granted, Nasmoto is not the AMA
Supermoto, but it was still a championship
race and the big winner should be given his
props. Maybe next time, huh?
By the way, the photo you used of
National Champion Justin Ross in the bottom right-hand corner isn't even him' That
was really the icing on the cake.
