The 50th International Six Days
Trial, held on the Isle of Man,
October 13-18, was cover feature
for Issue #43. West Germany won
the Team Trophy, while Italy earned
the Silver Vase. The USA teams finished sixth and fourth in the respective
categories,
with
eight
Americans landing gold medals: Gary Younkins, Dick
Burleson, Jack Penton, Rod Bush, Dane Leimbach,
Danny Young, Carl Cranke and Malcolm Smith.
Burleson and Smith were Husky-mounted, and the
rest were on Pentons... Team Honda's boy wonder
Marty Smith scored a clean two-moto sweep aboard
his works Honda CR400 to win round five of the
Trans-AMA Series in Herman, Nebraska, on October
26... We tested both the MV Agusta America and
the KTM 400 Enduro, stating that the MV was
motorcycling's answer to the $30,000 sports car, while
the KTM was built for people with deadly serious
ambitions in off-road competition.

Yamaha's radical-looking FZX700S
Fazer appeared on our cover as part
of a feature where introduced the
1986 Yamaha street-bike lineup.

models was the Radian, the FZ600
and the SRX600... Eddie Lawson
(Yam) won the seventh edition of
the ABC-TV/Superbikers at Carlsbad Raceway on
October 27. Kent Howerton (Kaw) was second, and
Wayne Rainey (Hon) was third. Afterward, Lawson
said: "I enjoyed it until the last lap. On the last lap it
was, 'Okay dummy, don't fall off. "'... Shaun Kalos
(Hon) won the 125cc Pro class, Gordon Ward (Yam)
the 250cc Pro class and Phil Larson (Kaw) the 500cc
Pro class at round seven of the CMC/Skoal Bandit Lady
