Shogun Motorsports CMRA Endurance Series Round 7: Texas World Speedway PHOTO BY SHAN MOORE Desert Rats Top the Mix, Northwest Makes It Six By SHAN MOORE COLLEGE STATION, TX, OCT. 1 esert-Rats.net outlasted KNMotorcycles.com during the final sprint to the finish to claim the win over a 39-team field at the last round of the Shogun Motorsports CMRA Endurance Series, held at Texas World Speedway in College Station, Texas. Meanwhile, Northwest Honda Racing, needing only to finish the five-hour event to garner the series title. rode a conservative race to seventh overall to claim their sixth series championship since 1993. KNMotorcycies.com led most of the frYe-hour event and had built substantial leads on several occasions, but red flags wiped out their advantage each time. The last of three red nags. coming with an hour and a half left in the race, left seven teams on equal D terms for the final sprint to the finish. During that final sprint to the checkers, KNMotorcycies.com and Desert-Rats.net swapped the lead several times before KNMotorcycies.com's Will Gruy went down on the final lap. The win was the first of the year for Desert-Rats.net and secured second overall in the final standings for the team, in addition to the 2005 A Superstock title, while KNMotorcycies ended up w;th second overall in the race, which gave them third overall for the year and first in the C Superstock championship. Third overall on Sunday went to Team O'Donnell, who topped 2005's "hard luck" team, Village Idiots, for the C Superbike title. The Village Idiots won two endurance rounds in 2005, but DNFs doomed them to sixth overall for the year and second in class. Thornville, Ohio, native Michael Willard ended up being the talk of the track. Willard is the 2005 Canadian Champion in the MX2 East class, and he proved to be a force to be reckoned with at Mapleshade. Willard was victorious in both classes he entered. In the 12Scc A class, Willard put on a clinic aboard his KTM 250 SF-X. He got the early lead in moto one and never looked back. Steve Roman and Brian Shuckhart, both on Kawasakis, got in line behind Willard but couldn't track him down. They ended the moto in that order, with local rider Tim Scouten putting in a strong fourth-place finish on his Honda. Mom two looked a lot like the first, with Willard out in front, but this time Shuckhart was able to get the best of Roman and finished second. The overall victory went to Willard, with Shuckhart second and Roman third. The other class Willard entered was the lSOcc A class. Riding a KTM 250 SX two-stroke, Willard was once again the man to beat. In the first moto, Willard had a familiar adversary on his tail. Roman, this time on a Yamaha, tried to keep Willard in his sights, but he had his own battle to deal with. Suzuki jockeys Ben Ritter and Roy Holt, along with Honda rider Chad Boyd, formed a pack of swarming bees behind Roman, dicing back and forth throughout the moto. When the checkered nag came out, Willard took the win, with Roman holding on to second and Ritter in third. In the second moto, Willard once again took the win, followed by Ritter and Boyd. Willard obviously took the top step on the podium, with Ritter as runner-up and Boyd third. After all was said and done, it was another successful event put on by the Lawsons and the Mapleshade crew. The last race of the year will be held on October 23, a double Mapleshade points race. eN RESULTS SO OIL-INJ STK ("-8): I. Morgan Bell (Cob); 2. Vincent Lundvey (KTM); 3. Ethan Simmen (KTM): i.
