Winner Shane Watts was hoping to ride his '06 KTM 200 in Iowa, but the bike wasn't ready in time for the race, so he was forced to ride his hammered 'OS KTM. He spent Saturday prepping the 'OS KTM but forfeited track time that day. As a result, Watts got the bike all dialed in, but he did have to finish Sunday's race without a back brake and with a burnt clutch. Brian Garrahan, who finished fourth, ran a stock fuel tank on his RM250 and had fuel issues all day. "It took me a while to get comfortable out there," Garrahan said. "[Promoter Bill] Gusse laid out a real good course, and we had a lot of fun, got to do a lot of racing with everyone. 1had to do a little extra work [because] I didn't have a dry-break tank, so I had to stop a couple times. Everyone else had to stop once. I had to put a little extra effort in, but all in all it was a fun race." 'Well, now's the time to pin it.' So I pinned it, because I felt good and had learned the track by then. From there, I just pulled away and kept pulling away." Jarrett held on to second for a couple of laps, but the shoulder he dislocated two weeks earlier at the ISDE in Slovakia wasn't up to the punishment. "It didn't really bother me until about the end of the third lap," Jarrett said. "I pushed real hard on the third lap to try to catch Shane and I couldn't. J started the fourth lap, and it started to hurt pretty good. Justin caught me, and I just kind of let him go. I ftgured he was either going to run away from me or I was going to try to stick with him. When we started the last lap, my shoulder was pretty much toast. I pretty much gave up; I was just going to let him go." But Lady Luck smiled on Jarrett. .~ two turns later, I came around a comer and [Williamson] was upside down," Jarrett said of being gifted second place. "I just tried to push hard, but Uarrett] stayed right on me:' Williamson said. "On the last lap, I knew it was time to go to really get away from Jimmy, so 1 pushed it hard and 1 pulled maybe 10, 15 seconds on Jimmy. About two miles into the last lap, 1slid out on these three big, old roots. As I did that, I was getting up and got my bike started and was just about to take off when Jimmy just cruised right on by me. "From there on I was really pushing Jimmy hard to get him to make a mistake, but he didn't do it and he never let me by:' Williamson said. "That was a lot of roost, following Jimmy that last lap!" Jarrett had a plan once he got ahead of Williamson. "The track's pretty tight; it's hard to pass:' Jarrett said. "I thought, 'Well, I'll give it one last shot: 50 I went pretty slow in the tight stuff because I knew he couldn't get by me. Once we got in the open, I pinned it, and he couldn't get around me, 50, luckily, that's how it ended." Early leader Garrahan and Bach ended up in a near-race-Iong tussle for fourth. "Brian and J, we kind of rode together all day," Bach said. "I let him by. I'd get around him and I'd let him by, then I'd crash or screw up. The track wore itself in really good; it got really nice - nice and rough. The top three kind of checked out a little bit and left me and Brian battling for fourth. Brian got me here in a rock section - I made a stupid mistake, and he cruised on around me." Bach didn't give up, though, and pressured Garrahan to the finish. "I was all over him, but I tipped over," Bach said. "I gave him a hundred yards, and that's all he needed to get me at the end there." CN Coyon XC WAUKON, IOWA RESULTS: OcTOBER 2, 2005 PRO, I.
