World Superbike Championship Foret's apparent lack of forward drive from midpoint on. He overshot the Adelaide comer on lap 18, losing more time to his teammate, but remaining safe in fourth. There's no show without punch, but there was certainly lots of punch in the racing at season's end. The early-season dominance of Honda was overturned in the last few races, as the Ducati and Yamaha minorities asserted themselves. With a new R6 for 2006, and a new Suzuki should A1stare get the go-ahead to run factory versions, World Supersport 2006 will be back to its best from the start of the season to the end. eN MAGNy-COURS CIRCUIT MAGNY-COURS, FRANCE RESULTS: OCTOBER 9, 2005 SUPERBIKE QUALIFYING: I. Chris Vermeulen (Above) Muggeridge just lost out to Toseland in race one for the final podium position. (Below) Broc Parkes (23) got his first-ever Supersport win, with teammate Kevin Curtain (11), second and Michel FabriZIO (84) third. plan was to make a gap, and when it got to about I 1/2 to two seconds, I was able to control the lead. The front tire was completely gone at the end, but we were able to bring her home. I'm glad that my parents were over [here] to see me take this win, and I think we'll have a quiet celebration tonight. I can't wait to start testing our new R6 now, and I hope that next year it's the Hondas that'll be chasing us." Despite Sebastien Charpentier's dominant form on the Winston Ten Kate Honda, over the first three-quarters of the season, three manufacturers have had their riders on the top step of the podium - Honda, Yamaha and Ducati. Behind Parkes, a furious battle for second, third and fourth went the way of Yamaha Motor Germany's Kevin Curtain, ahead of Team Italia Megabike Honda's Michel Fabrizio and his teammate Fabien Foret. Suzuki rider Javi Fores took fifth. The final points standings have Charpentier on 210, Curtain on 187, Fujiwara third on 149 and Foret fourth on 144. Fabrizio takes fifth with 138. SC Caracchi Ducati's Gianluca Nannelli fin- 28 ishes top Ducati rider in eighth, with Fores ninth. Poleman Fabrizio made a lightning start from the front row, and an early attempted pass by Curtain failed as he drifted wide, allowing Fabrizio through again. On the second lap, Parkes duffed up Fabrizio to take the lead, with Curtain also getting passed by a determined Foret, who had to take two consecutive attempts to keep his new third place. In their fight for second, Curtain and Fabrizio were soon joined by Foret, as Parkes made good use of the clear track up ahead. He was almost two seconds ahead at the end of the fifth lap of 23. Foret, on home ground, had the smell of a podium in his nostrils. Fabrizio, with Curtain and Foret shadowing him, slapped in a new lap record, 1:44.071, as he danced on the edge of adhesion. He was nonetheless still fourth overall, as Curtain started to make consistent progress in second. He made no impact on his teammate, who maintained a two-second cushion through lap 14 and beyond. Continued from poge 27 The second annual "Cook of the Year" contest may have been a knockabout competition for most at Magny-Cours, but the team's hospitality staff takes it as seriously as the racing. With a number of prizes on display, the top prize was taken by the Pedercini team. Or specifically, Lucio Pedercini's aunt (not a professional chef), who beat all the full-time qualified chefs for the top honor. The walking wounded in France included Regis Laconi, who had to resort to tightly taping up the outside of his leathers on his injured right elbow to stop it from pumping up during the practice sessions. Owner of the eponymous Team Pedercini, lucio Pedercini, looks set to finish his long full-time Superbike career this weekend, only riding in one or two selected rounds next year, or the odd Italian Superbike race. A long-standing back injury, which necessitated the removal of cartilage from vertebrae in his upper back, has been the main culprit. He will still run the team in 2006, most likely with Marco Borciani and current rider Ivan Clementi, on Ducatis as usual. The Team Megabike Honda team seems set now, and certainly European 600 Superstock runner-up Yoann Tiberio will be promoted from the Junior team to a full Supersport berth. The lead rider spot is not yet confirmed, but Katsuaki Fujiwara seems the best bet. Other possibilities are Fabien Foret and Aussie Josh Brookes. Team boss Salvatore Giorlandino is expected to hear more news on race day from visiting Honda Europe boss Silvio Manicardi. The winter test schedule for World Superbike will take on a different complexion in 2005-06, with no official preseason tests at all, but a number of either tiredevelopment team sessions, or general Pirelli tests taking their place. The official tests, with FGSport staff on site like a normal race weekend, will be at Valencia, March 27-29, and Misano, April 12-13. The Development Teams Tests will be at Bmo, June 12-14, and Eurospeedway Lausitz, July 15-17. Pirelli tests will take place at Valencia, November 14-15; Qatar, December 46; and Phillip Island, January 17-20. Petronas caused all sorts of problems at Magny-Cours. First of all, Steve Martin's engine let go on Saturday morning and put oil on the track, halting the session for 20 minutes. Then, in the afternoon, stand-in rider Andy Notman crashed on the entry to the main straight, and as his bike hit the deck, it holed the engine case, putting oil down the main straight. The Magny-Cours track-cleaning truck appeared twice in one day, as the second session, and therefore Superpole, was delayed. Martin's machine also caught on fire after another practice incident.
