\ A /hat a labor Day Weekend at the fourth
Y Y annual Baja Brawl at the Michigan Mafia
headquarters track, Baja MX in Millington,
Michigan!
It started with a Friday practice for more
than 400 riders. Saturday brought out the
area's top riders. competing on Baja's mileand-a·haIf National-caliber track, which was in
mint condition and which featured various
obsades, such as "Kong" (a sandy uphill that
gets whooped-out). the Ski jump (the signature
launch), and eleYation changes that keep the
riders' elbows up. The Monster Energy team
stopped by to give eYerYone a cold Monster
Energy Drink on a sunny, 8O-degree weekend.
Pit·bike races sponsored by Tom Z and Great
Lakes Power Sports followed the races on
Baja's junior track with a I)-cap whoop section
that gave all 60 riders a lesson in commitment.
On Sunday morning, the factory Cobra rig
was set up for the start of the three-motofonnat event called the Baja Brawl. Promoter
Patrick Grzebinski added a section of whoops
to the track, making it even more demanding.
That's why champions such as Brian Swink,
Nick ~, the 8Jgelow brothers, josh Woods,
Kelly Smith, Lisa Wagner and Nico lni corne to
Baja. After the second motos were over, Baja
held a new event • the Freestyle Pond jump
Contest, with judges Ini, Matt Crown and
Randy Valade scoring kids and adults alike as
they rode down a huge freestyle ramp,
performing their best aerial tricks and landing
in a pond. With a local rock radio station
announcing the event and about 500 racers and
their families watching "stupid human tricks," it
was definitely a hit. Check out Bajamx.com for

Monday featured the final motos, with $100
holeshots on the line. Scotty Thomason swept
the 12Scc and 250cc A classes. Inl debuted on
the Suzuki 2SOF and rocked the house; he was
