Pleasure Night

CAYUGA, IN, SEPT. 24
T
he Pleasure Riders Motorcycle Club members hosted the
season-ending hillclimb weekend for Districts 15 and 17 at
their c1ubgrounds near Cayuga, Indiana It had rained hard the
night before, so the I55·foot, three-stage hill was slick, and the
landings after the breakers featured lots of water and deep
mud. The quads were given many practice rides and then were
run first, but the hill was still quite a slippery challenge. Some
I 16 riders took that challenge, and Eric Wheelwright emerged
with a perfect night. winning three classes and taking the Fast
Time award.
Wheelwright's first win came in the 450cc class. His firstround time of 4.550 seconds was good enough for the class
win. He beat it himself, however, topping the hill on his CRF450
Honda thumper in 4.545 seconds. Class points leader Shane
Green put his KTM 380 over the top in 4.799 seconds for
second place. Kurt Krohner was third.
Wheelwright came back with the fast Honda to also claim
the 600cc Four-Stroke win with a 4.554·second time. Krohner
and Chuck Schroeder finished second and third, respectively.
In the highly competitive 600cc class, Tom 8rown took the
early lead with a 4.81 O-second run on his Honda, and "Fast
Andy" Fortner carded an even quicker 4.803 seconds on his
first ride. But Wheelwright continued his fast running with a
4.422·second run on his CRSOO, a time that would have held for
the class win and Fast Time. In second-round action, Brent
Bowman topped out in 4.674 seconds to move into second,
while justin Trent carded a 4.735-second time to take third.
Wheelwright then took a "free ride" and beat his own fast time
with an even better 4Al4-second time, completing his clean
sweep of his classes and the Fast TIme.
Mark Schroeder was a double class winner on his YZ250
Yamaha, his first coming in the 250cc class. Class points leader
Mike Popham took an early class lead in the first round with a
good 5.084-second run on his Yamaha, but newcomer Randy
Shuman slipped under that with a 5.032-second run on his
KX250. Schroeder was Sitting in sixth place at the break with a
SA70-second time, but he took his extensions off and came
back strong on his second-round ride, flying his stock-length
bike over the top in 4.626 seconds to take the win. Shuman
improved his time with a 4.896-second run to take second, and
Popham also improved with a 4.984-second run for third.
Schroeder's second win came in the 400cc Stock class, in
which his 4.864-second first-round run held up for that win,
with Shuman his closest challenger with a S.027-second run.
In Youth action, Dakota Blakeney was a double class winner,
taking both the 6Scc-c1ass win, with Brett Kalaher second, and
the 8Scc junior Mini-class win, with Caleb Emory second. Kolt
Kinsler grabbed the SOcc-c1ass win, with Cole Garriott second.
"8Iazin' 8lake" Cappello had a great night as well, as he
grabbed the win in the Youth 8Scc Senior Mini class with a
5.861-second ride, which also claimed the Youth Fast Time
award, on his KX85. Cappello then returned on his KX 125 and
posted a 5.271-second time in the 12Scc class on his first ride which would have been a winner, but he beat it himself with an
even faster 5. I92-second second-round time.
justin james claimed second in the Senior Mini class, while
points leader R.D. Miller III claimed second in the I25cc class.
