Woods On Top At Honey Lake Briefly... Defending series Champion Nathan Woods broke his drought by scoring his fourth win this season in the Rocky Mountain AN/MC World Off-Road Championship Series. The Montclair Yamaha/Zip-Ty Racing/Moose yz4S0F-mounted racer dominated round nine, presented by DH I Racing and Zip-Ty Racing, at Honey Lake MX Park near Milford, California, on September 25, with Suzuki's Mike Kiedrowski the runner-up some SS seconds behind. Privateer Bobby Garrison finished third on his Big Valley Honda CRF4S0R, another 70 seconds back. Challenger Kurt Caselli saw his quest for a three-peat vanish with his seventh-place finish. The KTM star was hampered by tendonitis that also affected the last few days of his ISDE in Slovakia the week before. Though he gated well on his 250 MXC, he couldn't run that pace for the full two hours. Continued from page 9 The Road 2 Recovery Foundation has announced that Samsung Mobile will be the presenting sponsor of the foundation's first annual Hold 'Em or Fold 'Em Celebrity Poker Tournament at MGM Grand in Las Vegas, Nevada. The tournament coincides with the U.S. Open of Supercross held October 7-9 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena. "Samsung Mobile has been a sponsor of the sport for the past two years, and supporting the Road 2 Recovery Foundation's event is a great way for us to extend our involvement in the sport," said Tj Person, senior manager of business devel- opment. The tournament will allow participants to sit at a table with a Supercross rider and compete for a spot in the 2006 World Series of Poker. Additional prizes will be awarded through 20th place. Celebrities scheduled to appear include jeremy McGrath, Chad Reed and Travis Pastrana. "Today, I was on a mission," Woods proclaimed. "Yesterday in practice, on our parade deal, Ifelt that I was going to win the race. I felt good, my bikes worlk good, everything about it was just going my way. When that happens, it's great. It doesn't happen that way all the time." Woods' teammate Ty Davis got the holeshot, with Woods tucking in behind and Caselli a close third off the start. Before long, though, Woods broke past Davis, who would end up fourth, and he rode the rest of the way untouched, though he did crash on the final lap. Behind him, both Kiedrowski and Garrison rode steady races to move up in the pack to secure their finishing positions. Russell Pear- son, the third member of the Montclair Yamaha team, rounded out the top fIVe after stopping to assist a fallen Bobby Bonds. jussi Vehvilainen took sixth on his Team Green KX2S0 in his firstever off-road race. The motocross Grand Prix veteran, most recently of the CAS Honda team out of Great Britain, is interested in following the lead of fellow Finn juha Salminen and racing in the United States next year. Mark Kariya The Edwards And Hurricane Rita MotoGP star Colin Edwards was on tenterhooks at the Malaysia Grand Prix - until he learned that his family in his Texas home had escaped the worst of the devastation left by Hurricane Rita. Edwards, ironically nicknamed "Texas Tornado," lives 40 miles northwest of Hous- Chaparral Motorsports in San Bernardino, California, will hold its "Monster Block Sale Event" on October I. Advanstar has announced that the entry fees for the professional 250 and 450 classes would be waived for the entire 12-round K&N presents BooKoo Arenacross Championship Series.
