Haga Hit:!i 100 Noriyuki Haga has done it all In motorcycle racing, Including winning the 1997 All Japan 5uperblke Championship and winning the Suzuka 8 Hour with Colin Edwards in 1996. But his true home has always been the Wortd Superbike Championship. Haga made his World Superbike debut as a wild-card rider at Sugo In 1996 and made an immediate impact by taking second place. Later he was enlisted to replace the injured Colin Edwards at the end of 1997 on the factory Yamaha team. Haga stayed with the team until Yamaha pulled out of the program at the end of 2000. After a miserable year on a Red Bull Yamaha YZRSoo In 200 I, Haga moved back to the World Superbike Championship to ride the factory Aprilia in 2002 where he would finish fourth in the championship. When Aprilia also withdrew from the series, Haga found himself back In MotoGP in 2003 on the Aprilia MotoGP bike. which was also an extremely difficult year; he finished 14th at the end of the season. Last season, Haga was back in World Superbike on the Renegade Koji Ducati, and he won six races on his way to third in the series. Now, in 2005, Haga is back on a Yamaha, albeit the latest-generation YZF-R I fielded by the Yamaha Motor ltalia team, and he is making big waves at the front of the championship fight. 1--------------------- 76 SEPTEMBER 28, 2005 • CYCLE NEWS The Assen round of the World Superblke Championship saw Haga compete in his 1000h World Superbike Race on a Yamaha motorcycle, and his I52nd total In World Superblke (as of Lausitz on all brands).
