Loris Capirossi: Staying Put Loris Capirossi decided to stay home. The 32-year-old Grand Prix veteran decided that being an italian on an Italian team was the best fit. Which means we'll see him campaigning the Marlboro Ducati Desmosedici for a fourth year in 2006. cn: You're staying with Ducatl next year. 1orlscapirossI: I sign one more year with Ducati. I'm really happy about that, because for sure I see the goal on this bike. I see this bike in the beginning, I work really hard to improve this bike. And for sure I want to try one more year. Also, our collaboration with Bridgestone is coming strong at the moment. cn: Your season-best second place In Brno must have been encouraging, IoriscapIrossl: Uke you say, we make a big race result in Bmo. And we try to finish in the best way, especially this season. After that, we start to working for next year. cn: You also talked with Honda Pons and Suzuki, How close did you come to signing with one of them? loriscaplrossl: So close with both, don't know. We have two options. I'm thinking for the rider like me, I have 32years-old now, I think it's most important to work especially close to the factory, not with a satellite team. Satellite team always is good to ride for Honda, but any way to work direct to the factory is most important. This is why we talked also with Suzuki. But anyway, I think the decision I take is quite good for me because I am Italian, Ducati is Italian. I think the potential we have in our bike is quite strong. And we have to find some little solution to come in really strong. cn: What about thE BrldgEstone tlr&s? loriscapirossi: For sure, this is the first year for us working with Bridgestone, first-year collaboration. We have to understand. Bridgestone has to understand Ducati and we have to understand Bridgestone. But for sure in that moment, the collaboration is quite good. cn: Do you know who your teammate will be? loriscapirossi: In this moment, we don't know, really, this is for sure, But I don't know if Carlos [Checa] stays or [Sete] 14 SEPTEMBER 28, 2005 • CYCLE NEWS Gibernau is coming, but for me is not a problem. Is good to have a strong rider behind me or with me. We try to do our best, especially for Ducati. en, Are 1I0U worried that Glbernau might take the developmEnt lead on the DesmosEdIcI? loriscapirossi: I don't f-ing care. I have great collaboration with Ducati. I am so close to Ducati. I am working with Ducati for three years, now it's coming four. I have this really good relation with the chief working with this project, Filippo Preziosi and Claudio Domenicali. And for sure next year maybe Sete is coming. I am sure Sete has good experience with Honda. And maybe he says, 'Okay, we need that and that and that.' We talk together and decide what to do. en: What do 1I0U have to do to beat Valentino Rossi next year? loriscapirossi: I believe totally in the potential of our bike. I know our bike. For sure, this season for us, sometimes is difficult. I'm thinking Valentino is in that moment, for sure is one of the best riders, the combination is one of the best. This is for sure. He is not the extrater- restrial - he's like us. But you know the situation of Valentino is the best at the moment. Always when one guy is winning, winning, coming stronger, stronger, for sure in that moment to beat him is difficult. But you never know. I'm thinking every top rider believes in ourselves. And I believe in our bike, our project. When the situation is like that, and especially when we believe in the whole team, all people working, all people believe in you, it's more easy to go qUicker and faster.
