AHRMA Northeast and Mid-Atlantic MX Regional Championship Final Round: Rausch Creek The tlth ANNUAL Mid-Atlantic Earns Bragging Rights By FRED GUIDI TREMONT, PA, SEPT. 10 he final round of the combined AHRMA Northeast and Mid-Atlantic MX Regional Championship concluded at Rausch Creek, near Harrisburg, Pennsylvania. Cloudless, blue skies met the more than 200 Vintage riders who made the trip to central Pennsylvania to compete for bragging rights in this T inaugural dual-region series. Despite two water trucks working throughout the day, the ever-present Rausch Creek dust refused to be tamed, and more than one rider ran off the track after misjudging their position. The track itself was its usual picturesque ribbon of hard-pack and tabletops, weaving in and out of the woods. Although not so good for spectators, the layout is very popular with the riders. The first moto of the day was for the modem bikes. Zach Easterly won both Expert motos. and James Way did the same in the B class. Race two saw Yamaha-mounted Jeff Conrad taking the overall in the Post-Vintage Open Age Novice class, ahead of Suzuki-mounted Michael Baker. It should be noted that Will Gahrmann finished both motas for the second race week in a row; surely there is ice forming in the nether regions. 1!!ff!I!!'J.@:l:I!r/jlIrRlff/ Blountville, Tenn The unlucky "BullacO Bill" Matthews continued his string of DNFs when his untrusty Pursang would not report for duty. Northeast rider Angel Betancourt finished ahead of Fred Kostendader for the Over 50 Intermediate win. James Zurk took the honors in the Post-Vintage Over 50 Novice class. The Women's division featured some of the best racing of the day. Raven Wilson finally started to get used to her new Elsinore. Frances Reeves. riding the Romine-tuned Suzuki, kept Wilson honest. These two ladies have really started to turn it up this season, despite being coached by two men of questionable ability. One of the highlights of the day was when Mid-Atlantic webmaster AI Conte dusted the cobwebs off his trusty CZ and came out to race with the men. Conte had not raced in many years, but he made a good shOWing, finishing a close second to Rick Tatano in the Sportsman 250cc Novice class. Conte's CZ looked trick, and he was sporting an ear-to-ear grin when he took off his helmet. Jerry Casciero had the two best-looking bikes at Rausch: two immaculate CZ Twin Pipers. Casciero's bikes really are too pretty to race. but race them he did. taking first in the 500cc Sportsman Expert class. Mid-Atlantic moto meister Luke "Pretty Boy" Loy spanked the Ultima 500cc Intermediate class. honing his skills for the Moto des Regions to be held later in the year. Joe Vanella finished ahead of Fred Kunckle in the GP Intermediate class. Kunckle did not make the trophy presentation, since after drawing his own number in the SO/SO drawing, he left before he was trampled by the mob. When the considerable dust settled and the final scores were posted, a great weekend of racing ended with the MidAtlantic region earning the bragging rights until next year.
