Venegas' futile efforts to track down runner-up Hamill in the A Final left him in third place, with 16 points. Three-time U.S. National Speedway Champion "Flyin'" Mike Faria and newly crowned NorCal Champion Bart Bast finished first and second in the B Final, gaining 12 and II series points respectively. Nate Perkins was third with 10 points, and "Fast" Eddie Castro finished fourth with 9. Despite winning the B Final, Faria was less than thrilled with his performance. "I'm really mad at myself for that last heat loss," Faria said. "I should be in that A Final, where the points are, but I blew it." Colorado native Buck Blair scored an impressive win over Shawn Harmatiuk. Bobby "Boogaloo" Schwartz and Tommy Hedden in the C Final. Bryan Yarrow finished his underachieving night by winning the D Final, ahead of Jimmy Fishback, to avoid falling into the elimination races at round two. In the opening salvo of heat races, Hancock, Faria, Fisher and Venegas got the wins. and Hamill had to struggle after a horrible start just to score the two second-place points behind Fisher. In round two. Hedden was on back-to-back rides and qUickly atoned for his heat-one goose egg with a win from the pole, ahead of Perkins and Blair. Fisher's bid for a perfect night ended when he fell in the next heat. and the quick-gating Bast laid claim to the threepoint win. Faria got his second win fairly easily over Fishback, and Hancock won his showdown with the uncharacteristically slow-gating Hamill. After two rounds, only Hancock and Faria retained perfect sixpoint scores. Round three began with speedway icon Schwartz's perfect start and then Venegas' perfect winning pass. Hamill followed that with a solid win over Perkins and Yarrow. Castro wrapped up the third heat with four qUick laps ahead of Blair and Bast. The final heat was a showdown between Hancock. Fisher and Faria. and they finished in that order. After three rounds, Hancock led the way with nine points. and Hamill was second with seven. In round four, Hamill, Harmatiuk, Hancock and Fisher all scored wins, leaving the second-place points to Faria, Hedden, Venegas and Blair. Hamill's win left him still two points shy of a clearly dominant Hancock. while Venegas was still within earshot, three points behind Hancock. In the final round. Fisher had to have a win to get into the A Final. and he got it by beating Castro. Venegas also qualified for the A Final with a victory over Blair. Harmatiuk and Faria. Faria's failure to secure at least a second-place finish left him with eight points and a trip to the B Final. Hamill and Hancock wrapped up the night's scoring with wire-to-wire trieN umphs over Bast and Schwartz. FAST FIlIDAYS SPEEDWAY AlMuRN, CA1a'oRNIA R£Suu'5: SlPTtMaat 2, 200S (ROUND 1 Of 3) A FINAL: I.
