BINGHAMTON, NY, JULY 10
"T'1'e newest and biggest motocross series to
I hit the East Coast in years, the Ultimate
Motocross Championship Series, came to the
beautiful Broome-Tooga Sports Center in Binghamton, New York, for round nine, sponsored
by MSR, Pro Taper, RRP and Answer Racing. The
series features more than $20,000 in cash and
prizes. Besides the great purse and contingencies, riders got to ride the full National track layout, the same track that the best professional
motocross riders will be riding in August when
Broome-Tioga hosts round 10 of the AMA
Motocross Championship Series.
Factory Red Bull KTM's newest Pro riders,
Mike and Jeff Alessi, came out to race round
nine and get in some seat time and experience
on the Broome-Tioga National track in
preparation for their return in August. The KTM
factory riden were in town for the Unadilla
National the following weekend in New Berlin,
New Yorl<, about an hour east of Broome-Tooga.
RRP's up-and·coming young Expert rider
Ronnie Stewart topped the 2S0cc Open
Pro/Expert podium with 1-3 rides. Casey Clar!<
took runner-up with a ~-I score, and Andrew
Pingotti closed out the podium with a 2-~ tally.
Jeff Alessi led the start of the first 2SOcc
Pro/Expert moto but experienced mechanical
problems before he reached the second tum.
Clarl< inherited the lead, with Jeremy Cook,
Stewart, Pingotti and Darren Edsall in tow.
Clark pulled away to a four-second lead by the
start of lap two. A half-lap later, Clar!< had a
problem on the back side of the National hill
and dropped to fifth. Cook, Stewart, Pingotti
and Edsall advanced. Clar!< caught and passed
Edsall on the following lap, taking fourth.
On lap four, Stewart came off the National
hill in the lead. Clar!< moved back into second.
Cook was relegated to third. But at the base of
the hill, Clark went wide and stalled his
thumper, dropping to fifth again. Stewart held
on to take the win with a seven~second
advantage. Pingotti, Edsall, Clark and Cook
rounded out the top fIVe.
Clarl<, unsurprisingly, nailed the holeshot in
the final 2S0cc Pro/Expert moto, followed by
Stewart, Edsall, Pingotti and Cook. Clarl< pulled
away to a fIVe-second lead by the start of lap
two. increased it to seven on lap three, nine on
lap four, and finally took the checkers after eight
laps with a whopping 20-second advantage.
Cook, Stewart, Pingotti and Edsall followed.
Logan Ehrets led the start of the first SOcc
(7·8) moto and rode wire to wire for the win,
taking the checkers just four seconds ahead of
Bethany Ruhf. Danny Colachino, Kayla Boorom
and Joshua Backus followed.
Ehrets led the final-moto start, with
Colachino, Ruhf, Boorom and Backus trailing.
On lap two, Ehrets went down, handing the
point to Ruhf, who held on to cake the win and
the overall. Ehrets did all he could to come
back but ran out of time. Colachino, Boorom
and Backus rounded out the top five. Ruhf
topped the podium with a 2-1 tally, over Ehrets
CN
(1-2) and Colachino (3-3).

family recendy moved to Decatur from Kansas.
Xtreme Team GreenlThor/Pro Circuit's

Hackley Jr. a clear run to the checkered flag.
Hackley, however, was absent from the rest of
the motos, having gone down in an earlier race
and bruising himself. Stroupe returned in moto

followed by Canard, Hewitt and Wharton.
Hewitt used his 3-2-3 for the overall win.
Wharton's 4-3-4 score netted second overall,

both events at Oak Hill, he was only able to net
the series win in the 6Scc (10-1 I) class with 90
points to Rumsey's 83 points. Rumsey, however,
won the series in the 65cc Open class with 92
CN
